Chapter 223 - Chapter : 221 : BIGBOSS

Players and people across the gaming industry were burning with curiosity about what kind of story the new project, "Metal Gear," would tell. After all, it wasn't every day that a game developer disappeared to study professional directors. That alone was enough to spark endless speculation. Now, with the latest trailer released by PixelPioneers Games, players and industry insiders alike checked in the moment they had a spare second.

"This promo CG is insane!"

"Come on! Why won't they announce the release date? I can't wait any longer!"

"I finally get why he went to study film. This doesn't even feel like a game trailer!"

"Okay, it's good… but is it really that exaggerated?"

"To be honest, I don't even fully understand the story yet, but when I calm down and watch carefully, I completely forget I'm looking at a game trailer."

Alex Jarod had just woken up at noon. He rubbed his eyes, booted up his computer, and glanced at his chat group, only to freeze in disbelief. +99 messages in a group of barely a few dozen people? What kind of madness had happened while he was asleep?

"I don't even play games as much as you guys. What are you talking about this time?" he muttered.

But when he scrolled up and saw the flood of messages, his heart skipped. Without hesitation, he typed: "Holy crap, 'Metal Gear' dropped a trailer?!"

The moment he sent it, the once-noisy group fell eerily silent. Then, a tidal wave of memes. Jarod's mouth twitched as he quietly saved every single meme into his favorites. From this moment on, these emoticons belonged to him.

"Stop talking. Go watch it yourself!" The group admin finally dropped a video link from a site and left a sentence before diving back into verbal warfare with the others.

His excitement was already building. He had been following "Metal Gear" for ages. Ever since playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, he had become a die-hard fan of PixelPioneers Games. His only complaint? They were masters of secrecy. Up until now, aside from some world-building lore and a single piece of original character concept art, almost nothing substantial had been revealed.

He clicked the link. First thing, close the comments, and second, switch the resolution to 1080P full screen. He leaned back in the chair, then his eyes widened. 9 minutes?! 9 whole minutes for a promo? Who makes trailers this long anymore? Aren't they usually two or three minutes max? He barely had time to complain before the video began.

Wind howled. Rain lashed against steel. Wolf dogs barked in the distance.

The studio's logo emerged slowly in the center of the screen, illuminated by sweeping searchlights. As the camera gradually pulled back, beams of white light cut through darkness and rain.

The searchlights swept across a rusted metal sign: "Camp Omega."

The perspective shifted into first person. Step by step, the camera advanced through the prison compound. Barking dogs. Armed guards on alert. Rain growing louder, heavier, more oppressive.

"She told us everything."

"Don't worry. I kept my promise. She was relieved in the end." A faceless man stood before a cage. Inside, a young boy stared back.

Without emotion, the man tossed a cassette player and a magnetic card into the cage.

"You deserve this…" He slowly crouched down. "There's no war left for you to play at. You're a real soldier now."

Text faded onto the screen: Amanda Valenciano Libre. A young soldier who volunteered to join the Snake forces.

As Amanda inserted the tape into the recorder, the faceless man rose and turned away, "When you get back… say hello to BOSS for me."

The camera shifted again.

The prison camp unfolded in full detail, watchtowers, patrol routes, soaked uniforms clinging to soldiers' backs. Subtitles introduced the production team while an oddly upbeat BGM contrasted sharply with the grim atmosphere. Vehicles rolled out of the compound.

A voiceover began.

"Ten days ago, we received intel that she is still alive."

"She's alive?"

"A fisherman rescued her while she was drifting in the Caribbean."

"What now? Eliminate her before this escalates?"

"No. I have other plans. Our contact in Cipher suspects that she may be a double agent. She was being tortured in a black-site prison base in southern Cuba."

"A black jail? Perfect. An American faction sitting on communist soil. U.S. justice has no jurisdiction there."

"It was Cipher who sent Paz in the first place. She knows their true colors. She's our only connection to them. If she's alive, we need her on our side."

As the narration unfolded, the mysterious man's face was finally revealed. Bruised. Disfigured. Barely human.

Jarod felt a chill crawl down his spine. If that face appeared in real life, especially at night, it would be nightmare fuel.

Text appeared: Skull Face, leader of XOF. The XOF insignia was smeared across a helicopter's hull. Skull Face approached the aircraft, issuing calm, deliberate commands.

The perspective lifted as the helicopter ascended, granting a sweeping aerial view of the entire military base.

The narration continued.

"Who's the other target?"

"Same area as Paz. Last radio contact was forty hours ago. Find them. Bring them back alive."

Inside the helicopter, Skull Face ordered a team member to remove the XOF patch from his uniform. The emblem was torn off and dropped into the abyss below. The camera slowed. The falling insignia filled the screen.

Then, a figure climbed up from the cliffside. As he pulled himself onto solid ground, the FOX insignia on his shoulder came into view, dominating the frame.

"Impressive. Snake hasn't lost his edge." He rose from a prone position. His right hand lifted and slowly removed the night-vision device.

A flash of reflected light. A rugged face. An eyepatch. A thick beard. A gaze sharp enough to pierce through the screen. Golden light flared across the center. Snake, formerly known as the legendary hero BIG BOSS.

Silence. One full second. Then a deep, steady voice: "Kept you waiting, huh?"

The screen cut to black.

When the trailer ended, Jarod didn't move. For several seconds, he simply stared at his reflection in the dark monitor. Only one thought echoed in his mind: This wasn't just a game trailer. This was cinema.
