Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Myne was taken to the part of the settlement where those who had gone against the rules were made to stand there as punishment for their actions. It was never anything truly that serious, a crime of some kind. That is not something that happened within the settlement, actually. Things were very peaceful in that aspect, as no one really stepped out of line or did anything that could be considered a crime against another. That just was not how Reva wanted things, thus it was not how they were overall. He just wanted to relax and exist within his own personal area, away from the outside world, and not get involved in it anymore. So those who create and commit crimes were going against that, so they just never did, as that was part of their overall programming.

That did not mean that no one ever did anything that was not considered worthy of being punished, though. That happened every now and then, as they only never commit anything that could be normally considered normal, but being an annoyance or doing something worthy of punishment was a different story.

Myne had a smirk on her face as she saw who was standing in the punishment area of the settlement at the moment. There, close by, was Carter's mom, as she was sighing with a disappointed look on her face.

There, currently on display for whatever punishment they were worthy of being placed here, there were three different automatons standing there in their offline states, as that was what punishment was, just being made to stand there in an offline state. Though it did not seem like a lot, they could be left there for hours, days, or even weeks in worst case scenarios before being allowed to come back online again. After all, the sense of time for those of Reva's settlement here was different from that of any others, as they did not perceive it as others did, even other automatons. They were unique in that they knew the dates, days of the week, months, etc. However, they long since lost track and stopped caring what year it was or how many of them had passed. So, with this way of perceiving time, punishment would last until the one who gave just decided it was time to end.

"Let me guess, she did something again," Myne asked.

"You can say that," Carter's mom said, neverously chuckling.

This caused Myne to look at her, confused.

Of the three, there were two girls and a boy currently standing there. A girl automaton with long hair and a shorter boy automaton were standing there offline, with their mouths open wide. Wide enough that flies and other things could fly right into them, and they would never notice. If it were just them alone, then that would have been something that would have been worth Myne's attention. It was the third automaton that was the reason for her coming to stand there.

It was Page who was standing there beside the boy automaton.

"So let me guess, Page did something again that pissed off Reva, and these two were working with her," Myne asked.

Carter's mom looked away, as she was trying to walk away from the scene, when she just froze up all of a sudden.

"Really? You kind of are a bad influence on her at times like these, and it's amazing how that's the case for her but not your own son," Myne said, sighing.

Carter was looking very annoyed, as he was basically dragging Reva behind him. As the four of them had done something that managed to piss Reva off, and thus they were given their punishment for it. Though, because Page and Carter's mom are not actually under Reva's influence like everyone else in the settlement, he can not actually tell either one of them what to do. They went offline with the other two because that's what, in Page's case, she would have done herself; she does willingly follow Reva's orders. In the case of Carter's mom, she was just doing what Carter would have wanted her to do, as she was actually under him. Though he never treats his own mom like that, he only ever comes up when she does something like this at times.

His mom was a simple fix, as he just had tell to come back online, though Page required Reva since she would not do so otherwise. That's probably what the problem was, as no one in the settlement is aware of this fact but Carter, Page, and Reva themselves. So they could not do anything about it, end the punishment themselves, given who it dealt with.

"Seriously, she really does do things like this from time to time. Was she always like that?" Myne said.

"Pretty much," Carter said, as his mom remained in her frozen state.

Over time, she became pretty close to Myne and Cami. However, over time, it was revealed that a lot of the traits Page had were not all just unique to her. They were ones that she had picked up growing up with Carter's mom as her guardian. Myne ended up becoming the one who dealt with the mess her two friends made, with Cami getting caught up in whatever things Carter's mom was thinking at the time.

Causing Reva to sigh, as he had a feeling why Cami was able to be so influenced by her two friends. That being said, she originally did not have any in the first place, as she was pretty much a loner who did things by herself. That for various reasons, but that was something that Reva used to his advantage long ago, at least at first. As what started out one way ended up becoming something else over time.

Reva then walked away, as Carter was busy telling off his mom and Page for what they had done after she was unfrozen, and Page was told to restart herself. At times like this, it was hard to tell who was the parent and who was the child. As well, who were the real best friends instead of who was the guardian and the one who was being taken care of by them in most normal scenarios outside of times like these?
