Chapter 5 - Selena

Arahan was heading to his new 12th-grade class on the first day of school. His high school was around eight kilometers away from the farming community where his family lived outside Hanford.

After leaving the rural orchard roads near his neighborhood, he entered downtown Hanford, the busiest area nearby. The streets were lined with grocery stores, diners, farm supply shops, gas stations, and small local businesses. For most nearby towns and farming families, Hanford was the main marketplace where everyone came to shop, eat, or hang out.

After crossing downtown, the road led toward a quieter suburban area near Visalia, filled with newer houses, clean streets, and large homes owned by wealthier families who preferred living outside the crowded city centers. The area had a calm atmosphere, with rows of trees, cafés, and modern neighborhoods stretching along the road.

Arahan's school was located just beyond that area.

He was riding his black Harley along the morning road, wearing his school uniform, when suddenly a girl standing near a bus stop raised her hand for a lift.

And the moment Arahan saw her, he froze for half a second.

She was unbelievably beautiful.

Her soft hair moved lightly in the morning breeze, and the sunlight reflected gently across her face. For the first time in a long while, Arahan felt his heartbeat stumble.

At the same moment, another scooter rolled up beside them, ridden by a girl around the same age, probably her friend, slowing down as she looked toward Arahan and the girl waiting by the roadside.

"You'll give me a ride to school, right? I'm going there too," the beautiful girl asked with a small smile.

"You should go with her instead. I usually don't give rides to people I don't know," Arahan replied, trying to sound calm.

"Yes, Selena, just tell me where you need to go. I'll drop you," the girl on the scooter offered.

"No, it's fine. I need to go to his school anyway, so I'll go with him," the beautiful girl replied, giving her friend a quick look.

The scooter girl shrugged and drove away toward town, leaving Arahan standing there beside his bike.

He was confused. How did she already know where he was going? Then he figured she probably recognized his school uniform and school route.

"So, will you take me now?" she asked again.

"I already told you, I don't usually let strangers ride with me," he said, even though a part of him clearly wanted to say yes.

"My name is Selena. So now I'm not a stranger anymore, right? Please, I'm getting late," she said playfully.

Arahan paused for a moment after hearing her name. He still couldn't understand why she insisted on riding with him specifically, but looking into her bright eyes, most of his doubts quietly disappeared.

"Alright," he sighed. "But hold on properly. These farm roads are rough."

Before he could say anything else, Selena climbed onto the bike confidently and wrapped her arms around his waist to steady herself.

Arahan's heartbeat instantly became uneven.

He started the motorcycle carefully this time, easing the clutch slowly as the bike rolled smoothly onto the road leading toward school. Warm morning wind rushed past them while orchards and open fields stretched endlessly on both sides.

After riding quietly for a minute, Arahan finally spoke.

"So… what are you doing at our school? I've never seen you there before."

"For the same reason everyone goes," Selena replied softly from behind him.

"Oh, so you're a new student? Which grade? If you're joining 12th grade, pick Section B. That's where I am," Arahan told her while turning the bike onto the school road.

"Okay," she nodded. "What's your name? So I can find you later."

"Arahan."

"That's actually a really cool name," she said with a smile.

"Your name sounds nice too, Selena," he replied, making her smile even more.

As the motorcycle moved along the uneven road, Selena stayed close behind him to keep her balance. The warm morning breeze carried the scent of orchards and dry grass across the highway leading toward town.

"So which grade are you joining?" Arahan asked again.

"Grades 1 through 4," Selena answered casually.

Arahan blinked in confusion.

"Wait… did you mean Grade 11 or 12?" he asked, thinking he misheard her.

"No. I said Grades 1 to 4," she repeated calmly.

Arahan frowned slightly. "I don't get it. You look our age. Why would you be connected to elementary grades?"

"You'll understand when we reach school," she replied mysteriously.

During the rest of the ride, Arahan asked about her family and where she came from. He learned that Selena's family had been living in Las Vegas for years, but they had temporarily moved near Hanford for about a year because their house in Vegas was being demolished and rebuilt.

She was also the only child in her family.

Still, Arahan couldn't stop doubting her strange answer about the grades. A girl who grew up in Las Vegas didn't exactly seem like someone connected to elementary school classes.

Before reaching campus, Arahan pulled out his phone briefly at a stop sign.

"Here, take my number. Call me when you're leaving school," he said.

"You bring your phone to school?" Selena asked, sounding surprised.

"Yeah, but I keep it hidden. Don't mention it to teachers," Arahan replied with a grin.

"Alright," she laughed softly.

A few minutes later, they entered the school parking area. Arahan parked near the bike racks, then walked Selena to the administration office near the principal's room before finally heading toward his own class.

---

When school ended, Arahan's phone vibrated inside his pocket.

"Has your class finished?" Selena asked from the other side of the call.

"Yeah, I'm done. Where are you?" he replied while walking out of the building.

"Come to the front gate."

When Arahan reached the gate, he immediately spotted her standing beneath the shade near the parking area. Even among the crowd of students, Selena stood out effortlessly.

As soon as she sat behind him on the bike, she wrapped her arms around him tightly again.

"Arahan," she said softly near his ear, "don't release the clutch so suddenly. Do it smoothly."

"I know," Arahan replied casually. "I'm just used to riding like that."

Honestly, that aggressive start had impressed plenty of people before, especially when the front wheel lifted slightly for a second.

"Then change the habit," Selena said firmly. "These roads aren't safe for that."

Arahan simply smirked and started the bike.

"So, your admission really got done?" he asked while riding past the orchards outside town.

"Yep, everything's done," Selena replied proudly. Then after a short pause, she added, "And… will you pick me up every morning from near my house?"

"Sure. Just don't make me wait," Arahan answered immediately.

After all, no guy would complain about riding to school every day with a girl like Selena holding onto him.

A few minutes later, she tapped lightly on his shoulder.

"Stop here. My home's right ahead."

Arahan slowed the motorcycle near a quiet suburban street lined with clean houses and trimmed lawns. Selena climbed off the bike and brushed her hair back.

"Thanks. Good evening, Arahan," she said with a smile before walking toward her house.

Arahan watched her leave for a moment before riding away.

That night, curiosity finally got the better of him.

He texted her:

"So now tell me properly. What grade did you actually join?"

A reply came almost instantly.

"Figure it out yourself :)"

Arahan stared at the message in confusion before laughing quietly.

They chatted for a while longer that night before finally going to sleep.

The next morning, Selena climbed onto the bike again, sitting close behind him as usual while pressing against him.

This time, remembering her words, Arahan released the clutch much more smoothly.

"See? That's way better," Selena praised happily from behind him. While her soft body stayed pressing tightly against his back.

The thin fabric of her shirt did nothing to hide how perfectly they molded against him. Every small bump in the road sent a fresh jolt through his body.

They chatted lightly along the way but his mind was elsewhere. Her arms stayed wrapped around his waist, fingers occasionally brushing lower than necessary.

After they reached the school, he stopped his bike, while Selena went into school.

Selena lingered for a second longer before sliding off, her chin almost resting on his shoulder one last time. She adjusted her bag and gave him that same knowing little smile as she smoothed her hair.

His attention wasn't on studies anymore; it was completely focused on Selena. The way a few strands of her hair brushed against her neck in the morning breeze, the soft jasmine perfume she wore, and the calm confidence in her expression after arriving at school, all of it stayed stuck in his mind.

Even when Sophia, Natalie, and Paisley spotted him near the classroom building and walked over while he was locking his bike, Arahan barely noticed them at first.

"Hey, where are you mentally lost today?" Natalie asked, waving her hand in front of his face with a teasing grin. "Don't tell me you already found yourself a new girl."

Paisley crossed her arms dramatically. "Seriously, who is she? You've been acting weird since morning."

Sophia stayed quieter than the others. She looked at him carefully before lightly tugging at his sleeve.

"Arahan… everything alright?" she asked softly.

Arahan blinked and forced himself back to reality.

"Yeah. Everything's fine," he replied casually.

But the truth was, his mind kept returning to Selena.

During lunch break, curiosity finally won over completely. Arahan started checking every classroom from Grade 9 through Grade 12, trying to figure out where Selena actually studied.

But she wasn't in any of them.

Confused, he finally texted her:

"So tell me honestly now. Which class are you really in?"

Nearly thirty minutes later, a reply appeared.

"I'm in Room 3A right now."

Arahan immediately headed toward the elementary section of the campus. When he reached Room 3A and looked through the doorway, he finally understood everything.

Selena wasn't a student there.

She was teaching.

Young children sat at their desks while Selena stood near the whiteboard wearing a fitted beige sweater, blue jeans, and white sneakers, calmly helping a little girl with her workbook.

Arahan froze outside the classroom.

When school ended later that afternoon, he finally asked her directly,

"How old are you exactly?"

Selena smiled slightly.

"I'm twenty-two. I already finished college."

Arahan instantly understood. She was four years older than him. That's why her body felt so amazing, and her breasts were so big.
