Chapter 985 - Chapter 994: Defeat

From the moment Jason fired the first shot, Hines and his team immediately swarmed out from behind Miura Kenichi and his men, encircling them. Initially, the encirclement was set at a distance to maintain concealment, so it took a bit of time to close in.

When Miura and his team first arrived in Hawaii, to avoid detection by their reconnaissance, Castle specifically instructed Hines to keep the FBI and CIA agents forming the perimeter further back.

Hines was reluctant, fearing that this might lead to unexpected incidents during Miura's team's assault on Castle. However, with Jason and his SEALs providing solid combat support, and after Castle himself coordinated with the FBI and government higher-ups, Hines had no choice but to comply.

Yet, less than a minute after Jason's first shot, a large number of FBI and CIA agents emerged from their hiding spots. Several modified, fully bulletproof off-road vehicles also rushed out, heading straight for the main gate of Robin's estate, where the battle was raging.

There were supposed to be helicopters, but upon learning that the joint action team—composed of agents from three different countries—had acquired two portable surface-to-air missiles from the Indians, the FBI leadership decided against it. After all, with the Air Force's A-10 Warthogs on standby in Hawaii, there was no need to present such a vulnerable target as a helicopter.

Miura Kenichi was trapped in a dire situation. Although a seasoned agent, he had never encountered such circumstances. Throughout his ten-year career, he had experienced shootouts, but never anything like this—completely pinned down by overwhelming automatic weapon fire. Moreover, all his team members were injured, leaving him as the only unscathed person. Despite his sharp mind, he found himself utterly helpless.

In front, he faced a blockade he couldn't possibly break through alone; behind, an encroaching encirclement. He could already see a large number of operatives in body armor and helmets, wielding automatic weapons, advancing from his rear. The clear markings on the vehicles showed who they were—damn, he was completely trapped this time!

Miura Kenichi didn't even have the time to ponder why his meticulously planned operation had been so thoroughly anticipated by his target. It was evident now that he had walked straight into a well-laid trap.

But figuring out the "why" wasn't his priority. What he needed to decide now was what to do next.

Surrender was his only option!

There was no choice. The suppressive fire was simply too intense. What was even more baffling was how just two automatic rifles could entirely pin down all eight members of his team. It was simply absurd!

Since when did automatic rifles possess such suppressive capability?

Miura's intuition was correct. Before him stood two masters of firearm combat. One was Jason, a rare Tier 1 operator from the famed SEAL Team Six; the other was none other than John Wick, once a legendary name in the underworld, known as the "Baba Yaga" and a marksman who could theoretically shoot through the earth if he had a gun. Despite retiring years ago, his wife Gianna had built a private indoor shooting range at their estate to keep him sharp. With a partner as well-coordinated as Jason, the two of them, comfortably hidden behind cover and shooting at unsuspecting targets, maintained an efficiency that rivaled the SEAL's "Strongest Marine."

As a result, Miura Kenichi's team of eight—including himself—had already lost three men by the time they exited their vehicles after Jason blew out the rear tire of the second car. From then on, the battle had been entirely under John and Jason's control.

These two were practically gods of warfare.

In fact, the ease with which they handled eight men was likely greater than the ease with which the SEAL team on the beach, supported by a sniper, handled twelve.

Neither Jason nor John had worked together before, but with their expertise, they naturally fell into rhythm with each other, their two rifles delivering a level of suppressive fire usually only possible with a sniper's support.

At the estate's main gate, the enemy-to-defender ratio was 4-to-1, while on the beach it was 3-to-1. Such odds were laughable to the SEALs, who were used to being heavily outnumbered in enemy territory.

But for the attackers, it was a nightmare.

As Miura Kenichi prepared to surrender, on the beach, Malatika and his two companions were also at a crossroads.

The Turkish team leader had resolved to sacrifice himself if necessary, but Malatika, from a noble high-caste family, had never faced such a life-and-death choice. Naturally, he lacked the same resolve.

Moreover, even if he died or launched a suicide charge, it would be futile. Since the Turkish team still had members advancing from the land side, there was no guarantee that Castle, who had clearly set up this trap, wouldn't capture them.

And with a Coast Guard cutter already visible on the water, escape was nothing but a fantasy. Malatika decided to persuade his 'comrades,' the remaining two Turkish agents, to surrender with him.

Under the oppressive fire of the heavy machine gun above, and with no path forward or backward, it was nearly impossible to resist. When someone in your ear keeps urging you to surrender, any remaining fighting spirit is hard to maintain.

Hence the saying: It's not the strong enemies that defeat you, but the foolish teammates. The Turkish team leader's bravery was entirely eroded by Malatika's cowardice.

However, the real chaos wasn't at the front lines but at the 'forward command center' set up by the Indians in Bangalore.

When the firefight began, Steve's team had already raided the safe house that was serving as a communications relay. This safe house not only facilitated coordination between Miura Kenichi's land assault and Malatika's beach operation but also maintained contact with Suzuki Mitsuru's group in New York and, more critically, with the command center in Bangalore.

But Steve's swift assault took just three minutes to capture everyone and shut down all their communications equipment. This sudden blackout left the Bangalore team in utter confusion.

They had been closely monitoring the operation, but immediately after issuing the action order, all contact was lost. They were baffled.

When they reached out to New York, they received a reassuring response that everything was proceeding as planned. However, before they could relax, they got word from a survivor in Hawaii that their team had been ambushed by the special task force.

A veteran intelligence officer in Bangalore quickly realized that their plan had likely been compromised. This also meant that Suzuki Mitsuru's team in New York might be walking into a trap, and they needed to be warned immediately to abort the mission and evacuate.

Unfortunately, by the time they reacted, it was already too late for Suzuki Mitsuru's team…
