Chapter 56 - The First Crossing

The morning sun climbed higher above Rosewood, filling the halls of Steel Medical Center with warm golden light.

Doctors hurried toward their clinics.Nurses exchanged cheerful greetings.Patients filled the waiting area,Life moved forward...

As though nothing had changed.Yet beneath the hospital's ordinary rhythm...Destiny had quietly begun to shift.

Celina pushed her cleaning cart through the pediatric wing. She greeted everyone with her usual warmth Good morning, Mrs. Collins."

"Morning, dear."

"Good morning, Dr. Hayes Morning, Celina As she reached the playroom, Daniel and Lily rushed toward her Miss Celina!"

Daniel held up a paper airplane can Mr. Steel fly this one today?Celina laughed.

"I think we should ask him,Lily smiled mischievously.

"He'll say yes and why are you so sure?"

"Because he never says no when you're around."

Celina's cheeks immediately turned pink.

"You two are becoming very naughty."

The children burst into laughter.

On the top floor...

Aaron signed the last page of a report before setting down his pen.

Ethan stood across from him with his tablet.

"The board meeting has been postponed until tomorrow."

"Good."

"The mayor confirmed next week's visit."

"Fine Ethan hesitated there is one more thing."

Aaron looked up you've checked the clock seven times this morning."

Aaron frowned have I?"

Ethan smiled you never watch the clock."

"You watch Miss Bakers."

Aaron sighed, giving up the pretense.

"I suppose I do."

Ethan laughed i've waited years to see this."

Aaron stood and buttoned his jacket i'm going downstairs."

Ethan blinked without calling security first?"

"I'm visiting the pediatric ward."

Ethan grinned.

"I knew it."

Meanwhile...

A black SUV remained parked across the street.

Victor sat behind the wheel.

His attention never left the hospital entrance.

He removed the old photograph once more.

A young woman stood beneath blooming cherry blossoms.

Her smile was bright.

Hopeful.

Alive.

He looked toward the hospital doors just as Celina stepped outside to help a volunteer carry donated toys.

Again...

The resemblance struck him.

Especially her eyes.

He quietly returned the photograph to its envelope.

Something about this assignment no longer felt simple.

Inside the hospital lobby...

Sophia Barrett stepped through the revolving doors.

She paused,everything suddenly felt overwhelming.

The familiar scent of antiseptic the sound of elevators opening.

The voices echoing through the lobby.

Her hands trembled slightly for Twenty Five years...

She had imagined seeing her son again.

Now...

She wasn't sure she had the courage.

"What if he refuses to see me?"

"What if he looks at me with hatred?"

She closed her eyes briefly.

"Perhaps..."

"I'm too late."

Just then,the elevator doors opened.

Aaron stepped out.

Sophia's breath caught he had changed.

He was taller,Stronger,more mature.

Yet...

She could still see the little boy who used to run into her arms after school.

Tears blurred her vision.

"My Aaron..."

Before she could gather enough courage to call his name...

She noticed something else someone else.

Celina.

Aaron's face softened the moment he saw her.

The cold, unreadable expression he wore during meetings disappeared completely.

Instead...

He smiled.

A warm...

Genuine smile.

Sophia watched as Celina laughed softly at something Aaron whispered.

The two of them looked so natural together.

A bittersweet smile touched her lips.

"So..."

She whispered.

"It's you..."

"Isabella's little girl."

Her eyes glistened with tears.

"You have no idea what you've done..."

"You've brought light back into my son's life."

She looked at Aaron one last time.

Then back at Celina.

"Thank you, Celina."

"I hope..."

"One day..."

"You'll find it in your heart to forgive us..."

"...for keeping the truth from you."

Sophia drew a slow, shaky breath.

"Not today."

"But someday..."

"When the time is right."

With one final glance at the young couple...

She quietly turned and walked away.

She had come hoping to see her son.

She left carrying something she hadn't felt in years.

Hope.

From inside his parked SUV...

Victor noticed the elegant woman leaving the hospital.

He narrowed his eyes.

She looked familiar very familiar.

But before he could think further...

His phone vibrated.

A message appeared.

Report.

Victor typed slowly.

Subject identified.

No unusual activity.

However... she has become very close to Aaron Steel.

He pressed send.

Almost immediately...

A reply appeared.

Continue observing.

Do not approach her until instructed.

Victor stared at the message.

His employer wasn't interested in Aaron.

Nor the hospital.

Only...

Celina.

He slipped the phone back into his pocket.

For the first time...

He wondered why.

And somewhere, hidden behind wealth, respectability, and a smile admired by society...

A woman read Victor's message.

Her fingers tightened around the edge of her desk.

"So..."

She murmured.

"The girl survived."

A slow, dangerous smile crossed her lips.

"Then this time..."

"I'll finish what should have ended twenty-five years ago.
