The following morning...
The memory of yesterday lingered in both their hearts.
For Aaron...
It was the warmth of Celina's hand.
For Celina...
It was the gentle touch of his fingers against her cheek.
Neither of them had slept very well.
Yet neither regretted a single moment.
...
Steel Medical Center bustled with its usual morning activity.
Doctors hurried through the corridors.
Nurses prepared for their rounds.
Patients filled the waiting areas.
But hidden among the familiar routine...
Two hearts searched quietly for each other.
Aaron stepped out of the executive elevator.
Ethan walked beside him with several files tucked beneath his arm.
"The board meeting begins in thirty minutes."
"The architects are waiting."
"And the investors from Boston arrived early."
Aaron nodded absentmindedly.
His eyes wandered down the corridor.
Almost as if...
He was looking for someone.
Ethan followed his gaze before smiling to himself.
"I'll assume the library inspection is also on today's schedule."
Aaron cleared his throat.
"It wouldn't hurt to check."
"Of course."
Ethan struggled to hide his grin.
...
At the pediatric ward...
Celina helped Daniel arrange new books onto the shelves.
"You've been smiling all morning," Daniel observed.
"Have I?"
"You smiled yesterday too."
Celina laughed softly.
"Maybe I'm just happy."
Daniel tilted his head.
"I think Mr. Steel makes you happy."
The book slipped from Celina's hands.
Daniel burst into laughter.
"I knew it!"
"Daniel!"
Her cheeks burned crimson.
"You imagine too much."
"I don't think so."
He folded his arms confidently.
"He smiles more whenever you're around."
Before Celina could answer...
A familiar voice interrupted them.
"Good morning."
She turned.
Aaron stood at the doorway.
Their eyes met.
For one brief second...
The rest of the room disappeared.
Neither realized they were smiling.
Emily noticed immediately.
"I see someone's library inspection couldn't wait."
Aaron looked slightly embarrassed.
"I was passing by."
Daniel whispered loudly,
"No, you weren't."
The room erupted in quiet laughter.
Even Aaron couldn't hide his smile.
...
That afternoon...
A light breeze swept through the hospital gardens.
Cherry blossom petals floated gently across the stone pathway.
Celina carried a tray with two cups of tea.
She found Aaron exactly where she expected.
Standing beside the fountain.
Looking out over the garden.
"I thought you might need another break."
Aaron accepted the cup.
"I'm beginning to think you know me too well."
She smiled.
"I'm still learning."
They walked slowly through the garden together.
Neither hurried.
Neither wanted the moment to end.
"I've been thinking," Aaron said quietly.
"About what?"
"You."
She looked at him in surprise.
He stopped walking.
"I've spent years believing work was enough."
"But lately..."
He smiled to himself.
"I find myself wondering whether you've had lunch."
"Whether you're tired."
"Whether you've smiled today."
Celina lowered her eyes shyly.
"No one's ever worried about me like that."
"I want to."
His answer came so naturally...
It caught even him by surprise.
Silence settled between them.
Not awkward.
Not uncertain.
Simply peaceful.
Celina looked up.
"Can I tell you something?"
"You can tell me anything."
"I used to think rich people lived in a completely different world."
"And now?"
She smiled gently.
"I've learned..."
"...that lonely hearts all beat the same."
Aaron's chest tightened.
Without thinking...
He reached for her hand.
This time...
He didn't let go.
Their fingers fit together naturally.
As though they had always belonged there.
Neither spoke.
Words suddenly seemed unnecessary.
The breeze carried another shower of cherry blossom petals around them.
One landed softly in Celina's hair.
Aaron smiled.
"It seems spring likes you."
She laughed.
"Or maybe it's teasing me."
He stepped closer.
"So am I."
Her heartbeat quickened.
She looked up.
Their faces were only inches apart.
She could hear his breathing.
He could see the nervous excitement shining in her eyes.
For a moment...
It seemed the world had stopped turning.
Aaron slowly lifted his hand.
His thumb brushed gently across her cheek.
"So beautiful..."
He whispered before he could stop himself.
Celina's breath caught.
No one had ever looked at her...
As though she were the only person in the world.
Her free hand slowly rested against his chest.
She could feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
"So this..."
She whispered.
"...is what happiness feels like."
Aaron smiled.
"No..."
He leaned just a little closer.
"This is only the beginning."
Neither noticed...
From the balcony above...
Victor quietly lowered his camera.
The smile on his face had disappeared.
"They've already fallen."
His phone vibrated.
"The report?"
Victor answered quietly without taking his eyes off the couple.
"They're no longer just getting close."
"They're falling in love."
Silence answered him.
Then came the cold reply.
"Perfect."
"Then it's time to begin."
The call ended.
Victor looked toward Aaron and Celina one last time.
For the first time since accepting the assignment...
He felt something that surprised him.
Regret.
Because deep down...
He knew that whatever happened next...
Two innocent hearts were about to be caught in a storm neither of them had seen coming.
