...

"I see. It's clear you really love your job. I hope things go well for you from now on," I said with a smile.

"Yeah, I wish you the best too," Celeste nodded.

"Thank you, thank you! Now, if you don't mind, I have to head back to Paldea. I've already been away for too long," Hana said.

She climbed onto her Dragonite along with her partner, Fuecoco, and the three of them flew off.

"She was really nice," Celeste said.

"She really was," I nodded.

Besides, I finally remembered who she was. From the moment I first saw her, she looked familiar, but I couldn't place her until now.

Her name, just like she said, is Hana, and she was the protagonist of a short animated story that was released on YouTube years ago—in my previous life. It was an official story, not a fan-made one. It followed Hana, a girl who, at a young age, was visited by a Dragonite while picking up the mail. From that moment on, she decided to become a Pokémon mail carrier.

The short showed her journey, from her teenage years all the way to adulthood, as she worked toward her dream and eventually achieved it. It was a very interesting and well-animated short that I really liked at the time.

Though, to be honest… I never thought I'd actually meet her. It was never specified whether her story took place in Ash's timeline, so I never even considered the possibility.

And yet, here she was.

Life really is full of surprises.

"I like her too, but… I don't think she'll achieve her dream anytime soon," Roxanne said.

"Why would you say that? I'm sure once her boss sees her abilities, he'll recognize her talent and dedication and let her do the job she wants," Celeste said.

"It's clear you lack experience," Roxanne replied.

"What do you mean?" Celeste asked, confused.

"I don't doubt her talent, effort, dedication, or passion for her work. But life isn't that simple. Even if her actions show great ability, her boss won't see it that way. Yes, he might be impressed—even praise her—but…" Roxanne explained.

"But?" I asked.

"She abandoned her post without saying anything. I doubt her boss will like that," Roxanne said.

"So you think she'll get punished or something?" I asked.

"What? But she didn't do anything wrong!" Celeste said, upset.

"That's how life works. When her boss finds out she left her post to do a job that wasn't hers, without permission… she might even receive a serious penalty," Roxanne said.

I see…

I guess it doesn't matter if you're in the Pokémon world. Not everything is as bright and carefree as it looks from the perspective of a Pokémon Trainer—someone who only has to worry about catching Pokémon, earning badges, and enjoying life.

For people who aren't trainers, life is just as difficult as it was in my previous world.

What a shame…

"That can't be…" Celeste said.

It really was a shame. Someone with Hana's level of talent and dedication was rare.

"That's life. There's nothing we can do for her," Roxanne said.

"That's not entirely true," I said.

"What do you mean?" Roxanne asked.

"There are times when you can fix things… and this might be one of them," I said.

"And how exactly are you planning to do that?" Celeste asked.

"More like… I'm going to try," I said.

Then I took out my smartphone and called Professor Oak.

"Hello?" Professor Oak answered.

"Professor Oak, it's me—Ash," I said.

Why does he always ask that when answering the phone? Doesn't his smartphone show who's calling?

"Ash! What's going on?" Professor Oak asked.

It had only been a few hours since we left. Why would I be calling him already?

"I have something to ask you," I said.

"Hm… that's unusual, but go ahead. If I can help, I will," Professor Oak said.

It was rare for me to ask him for anything. Besides, he owed me one after I told Talia about Mew.

"Well, here's the situation…" I said.

And then I explained everything.

"I see…" Professor Oak said.

"Right. That's why I'm calling. I want to know if you have any contacts in the Paldea region's post office who could help Hana," I said.

That's right—I wanted to help her. I liked her character, and in real life she was just as kind as she seemed in that short. So I decided to help her… or at least try.

"No, I don't have any direct contacts there," Professor Oak said.

"That's a shame…" I said, a bit disappointed.

Life isn't that convenient. It would've been too much of a coincidence.

"But I do know someone in Paldea. A good friend of mine. He might know someone who can help us. I can't guarantee anything, though," Professor Oak added.

"Really? That's more than enough," I said.

Looks like I got lucky this time. Maybe it's the protagonist effect or something.

"If he does know someone, tell me—what exactly do you want me to say?" Professor Oak asked.

"I want you to tell him this…" I said.

A few days later.

Several days had passed since Hana delivered the letter to Ash and returned happily to the Paldea region.

After completing her task, she believed her boss would finally recognize her talent and assign her to field work instead of office duties. She wanted to deliver letters in person—just like her partner, Dragonite.

But things didn't turn out the way she expected.

Not long after returning, Hana went straight to her boss's office to explain everything. She truly believed this would be her chance to finally achieve her dream.

But it wasn't.

Her boss acknowledged her abilities and even praised her—but he also scolded her for abandoning her post.

Because of her absence, the office had fallen behind schedule. Her coworkers had to work overtime to cover for her, and even then, it wasn't enough. Many letters that were supposed to be delivered that day never reached their recipients, and they received numerous complaints.

As a result, her boss issued her a serious warning and told her she would remain in office duty for many years.

And that wasn't all.

From that day on, her coworkers didn't treat her the same. She had to endure cold looks and being left out. Thankfully, everyone remained professional, so there was no bullying—but she was alone now.

What she thought had been a good deed turned out not to be one… and she was punished for it.

Even so, she never regretted delivering that letter.

Today, Hana was at the office, doing her usual work, bored by the monotony, when suddenly, her boss appeared.

"Hana," her boss said.

He was an elderly man with white hair, dressed in a brown suit and using a cane to walk.

"Yes, sir," Hana replied.

"Come with me to my office. We need to talk," he said.

"Did I do something wrong again?" she asked nervously.

"Come to my office and we'll talk calmly," he said.

He didn't seem angry… but then again, he hadn't seemed angry the last time either, and she still got scolded.

"…Alright," Hana said.

Hana and her partner, Fuecoco, followed him to his office.

"Please, have a seat," her boss said.

The office was filled with bookshelves packed with all kinds of books, a large desk with neatly arranged documents, and a very comfortable chair.

"Okay," Hana said.

Nervously, she sat down while Fuecoco climbed onto her lap, as always.

"Hana," her boss said.

"Yes?" she replied.

She was nervous. What did he want this time? Had she made another mistake? That couldn't be… ever since that incident, she had been doing her office work perfectly, without any errors.

So then… what was this about?

"I don't know how you did it or who you met to make this happen, but… congratulations. Starting today, you are the new head of the central post office of the Paldea region," her boss said.

Hearing that, Hana's mind went completely blank. Even Fuecoco was so shocked that he almost slipped off her lap.
