After everything we went through in the Johto region, and after saving Molly from the Unown, three weeks had already passed since then.
After preventing a disaster that could have wiped out the entire world, Ash and his girls decided to take a short vacation, which they would spend in Pallet Town. So that's where we are now—Pallet Town, inside Ash's house, more specifically in his room. Ash was sleeping peacefully in his bed, and right beside him was Pikachu, who was also fast asleep, until suddenly…
"Big brother, time to wake up!" a voice called out.
The door opened instantly, and the person pulled up the blinds, letting the sunlight flood the entire room and waking both Ash and Pikachu right away.
"Five more minutes…" I muttered, covering my face with the blanket.
"Nope, time to get up! Aunt Delia said breakfast's ready," the voice insisted.
The girl walked over and sat on Ash's bed—right on top of him—to make sure he got up.
Feeling the weight on top of him, Ash opened his eyes in surprise, only to see who had woken him up.
"Molly? What are you doing here so early?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.
"Aunt Delia told me to wake you up! We're all having breakfast together today! Everyone's already downstairs, ready to go," Molly said.
"What time is it?" I asked, confused.
"It's 9 in the morning!" Molly replied.
"9? That's pretty early…" I said, frowning.
"Big brother, you have to get up. Yesterday you said you'd play with me all day after breakfast," Molly puffed her cheeks.
"…Alright. Tell my mom I'll be there once I get dressed," I said calmly.
"Aunt Delia, Celeste, Roxanne, and my parents already left. We're the only ones home," Molly said.
"They left without me? Whatever. Wait for me downstairs—I'll get dressed and we'll head out," I said, gently shaking Pikachu to wake her up.
"Okay! But don't take too long!" Molly said with a smile.
Then she left, closing the door behind her.
If this were a novel or a fic, every reader would be asking: what's going on here? Why is Molly waking me up, and why are her parents alive and here in Pallet Town?
Well, it all started exactly three weeks ago.
After everything that happened—whether thanks to the Unown or not—the mansion returned to normal. But nothing was out of place. No, everything was exactly as Molly said it had been before. Nothing broken, all the furniture in place—everything perfect, as if nothing had ever happened.
Since Spencer and Celia (Molly's mother) were no longer with us, we decided to bring Molly to Pallet Town with us and have my mom adopt her. That way, at least Molly would have a family and a place to call home.
At the time, I found it strange that Spencer and Celia hadn't shown up, because in the movie, they both return at the end and become a happy family again. But here, that didn't happen… at least, not until the next day.
Even though it sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, the day after everything went back to normal, we received two shocking pieces of news. Apparently, Spencer had been found unconscious in the same ruins where he disappeared. And if that wasn't surprising enough, that very same day, Celia was also found in the exact ruins where she had disappeared years ago.
No one knows how Celia managed to survive down there for so many years, and more importantly, no one knows why she suddenly appeared there, since the police had already searched the place multiple times without success. No one knows how, but both of them were found safe and sound, without a single scratch. You can imagine how happy Molly was when she found out her parents were alive and coming back for her.
Both Spencer and Celia arrived at the mansion that very same night, and it was incredibly emotional to see a family reunited after everything they had gone through.
Up to this point, everything was normal (well… normal considering the situation), but then… why are Spencer and Celia in Pallet Town?
It's simple. After everything that happened with Molly, and after what they went through, they decided it was time to take a break—to step away from work and focus on their family. So, following a suggestion from my mom and Professor Oak, Spencer and Celia decided to move and settle down in Pallet Town.
Believe it or not, Pallet Town is the most peaceful and quiet place in the entire Kanto region—perfect if you're looking for a calm life. So my mom and Professor Oak's suggestion was accepted almost immediately. On top of that, they already had friends there, so they wouldn't be alone.
And just like that, they bought a house and moved in within a couple of days. It might sound too fast, but trust me—Spencer and Celia are ridiculously rich. So rich that they can afford all of that and more without even blinking. Still, instead of buying another mansion like the one they had in Johto, they chose a modest house just three minutes away from mine. We lived so close that during these past weeks, we've basically eaten together every day.
I think by now everything's clear… but that still doesn't explain my current relationship with Molly, right?
Well, let me tell you—Molly and I got along instantly. If we didn't back in the mansion, it was because her mental state was unstable and she couldn't think clearly. But once we settled into a peaceful life in Pallet Town, Molly went back to her normal self, and within just two days, we were already getting along great.
Two weeks later, we were practically like siblings. In fact, Molly even started calling me that.
Of course, Molly also got along really well with Celeste and Roxanne, but my bond with her was deeper. And don't get the wrong idea—yes, we care about each other, but not in a romantic or sexual way. It's the kind of love between siblings… between family. That's all.
After that, the following week, our relationship grew even stronger, to the point where there was no difference between us and real siblings.
My mom also got along really well with Spencer and Celia—actually, a bit too well. They got along so well that I even started suspecting my mom might like Spencer… and maybe he felt the same way. But… that's impossible, right? I mean, even if this world allows polygamy… I doubt Celia would be okay with that… right?
Anyway, I'd rather just think they're good friends.
Now that I've explained why Molly and her parents are here, it's time to explain the system's reward.
This time, the system didn't give me a Mythical or Legendary Pokémon egg, or even a Master Ball. No… this time, the reward was Spencer and Celia.
What does that mean?
That's exactly what I asked the system the same day I completed the mission… and do you know what it told me?
This was its answer:
Two weeks and four days earlier…
"System, it's been three days since the incident. Can you give me my reward now?" I asked.
[What are you talking about? I already gave you your reward.]
"What are you talking about? I haven't received anything. Where's my Legendary Pokémon egg? Or my Master Ball?" I asked, confused.
[I already gave you your rewards. You just didn't realize what they were.]
"…Fine. Let's say you're right. Then what are my rewards?" I asked.
[Spencer and Celia. Those are your rewards.]
"What? How can two people be a reward? And they're already safe with Molly—why would that be my reward?" I asked, completely confused.
[Do you really think the world is so kind that everything ends in a happy ending?]
"What do you mean? In the movie, they come back safely too," I frowned.
[Host… this is not a movie. I don't know how many times I have to repeat it—this is real life.]
"I know that. But what does that have to do with anything?" I asked.
[Do you think Spencer and Celia were found by coincidence? Do you think this was supposed to end like in the movie? Host… life is cruel. Happy endings are rare.]
"I still don't understand," I said.
[As you already know, Spencer was sent to the dimension where the Unown reside, while Celia disappeared years ago while exploring ruins in Sinnoh.]
"Yes, I know," I nodded.
[In the Unown's dimension, there is no oxygen. They do not need to breathe.]
"…What?" I said, confused.
[And how do you think Celia remained in such perfect condition after being missing for years? Doesn't everything seem a little too convenient?]
"…Now that you mention it… yeah, it does," I admitted.
I hadn't noticed it until the system pointed it out, but it was true. Both Spencer—and especially Celia—were in perfect condition, without a single injury. Spencer returning unharmed from the Unown's dimension was one thing… but Celia? She had supposedly disappeared after a collapse in ruins in Sinnoh. The fact that she showed up perfectly fine was extremely suspicious.
"Did you do something to keep them alive?" I asked.
[Yes. The system kept Spencer alive and manipulated causality to preserve Celia's condition.]
"…You're that powerful?" I asked, a drop of sweat forming on my forehead.
That was terrifying.
[Yes, but only because of the being that created me.]
"I… see. But wait… you kept them alive while I was doing the mission?" I asked.
[Correct.]
"Then… what would have happened if I failed?" I asked.
[If you had made even a single mistake, Molly's mother would have died, crushed by the rubble. If you had made two mistakes, Spencer would have suffocated in the Unown's dimension. And if you had failed three times… you already know what would have happened.]
At that moment, I remembered Pikachu's battle with Entei.
If I had used Mew—or any other Pokémon—back then…
[Molly's mother would have died instantly. You made the right choice.]
I swallowed hard, a chill running down my spine.
[I trust you now understand why Spencer and Celia are your reward.]
"…I do. And I'm glad I completed the mission without making mistakes," I nodded.
Sometimes, rewards like this are worth far more than a Legendary Pokémon egg.
…
Back to the present.
That was the system's reward—the survival of those two people. Even though I didn't receive anything material, I was happy I completed the mission. At the very least, I made my little sister happy.
Everything that happened afterward had nothing to do with the system—I confirmed it myself. It felt too convenient, so I thought the system had influenced Spencer and Celia into accepting my mom and Professor Oak's suggestion. But according to the system, it was entirely their own decision.
And that's how I ended up with a little sister.
A cute, affectionate little sister.
