"What do you mean? I'm not fading awa—"
Elly evaporated into the air mid sentence.
Ryan sat on the edge of the bed staring at the space where she was.
"Elly?"
Unsurprisingly, he didn't receive a response.
He was left alone with the tapestry on the wall and the sound of wind blowing against the window.
She acted as if she couldn't see herself fading… Maybe my bracelet just turned off like before.
He looked down to his wrist. The bracelet had the same dormant chill it did before it first got activated, and in addition, the engraving's colour had faded. Whatever had activated it was over. The warmth was gone.
Elly hadn't faded like James Blackwood had. The bracelet had just deactivated like last time. Which meant she was probably still there, somewhere in the room, examining something he couldn't see.
He looked at the bracelet again.
If it had activated because someone died, then the death had happened recently. Half an hour ago, maybe less.
Ryan got out of bed.
