Chapter 24 - Chapter 21: Men are all scum!

Both remained silent on the way back to the dock. Monica could tell that Tang Ping was in a foul mood. Considering they would have to spend a long time together in the future, Monica didn't mind bowing her head first—efficiency at work was her top priority.

Thus, she spoke first.

"Don't blame them; they were only following orders. Blame me instead—I was the one who didn't explain the context of the situation to you."

"I know..." Tang Ping's voice was low.

Perhaps he had received too much flattery over the past few days, to the point where someone being firm with him now made him feel uncomfortable. Tang Ping realized this himself, and it even sparked a sense of self-loathing.

*I wasn't supposed to be such a glass-hearted person... wake up! Without Tanosi's help, I'd likely still be a loser at the bottom of society, just waiting to die. I need to be humbler; I need to remember my place!*

Tang Ping shook his head, tossing the complex thoughts out of his mind. He took a deep breath. Never mind that—there were more important things to confirm!

"You mentioned Novice City just now. What did you mean? Were those things brought from there? How did you even get there?"

"...."

*As expected, he noticed.* Monica wasn't flustered; she calmly delivered the explanation she had prepared in advance.

"Don't you find it strange? How Lady Tanosi is able to summon these buildings?" Monica pointed toward the hotel and the nearby TOSTTO. Without waiting for Tang Ping to respond, she continued, "You stayed in Novice City with Lady Tanosi before, didn't you? Did you see her do anything... unusual?"

"Unusual...?" Tang Ping crossed his arms, rubbing his chin as he searched his memories.

That night, she seemed to have launched a green orb of light into the sky, which then enveloped the entire city. And then, the surrounding citizens suddenly...

*Wait! It couldn't be...?!*

Seeing Tang Ping's face turn pale as he guessed the answer, Monica finally revealed the "truth."

"Abyssal Evil Art—Magical Soil Erosion."

"The caster uses mana to completely erode the land beneath their feet, converting it into their own territory. This technique is usually paired with [Abyssal Evil Art—Magical Soil Summoning]."

"The principle is very simple. You've seen a similar divine art before..."

"...The Water God's Seal, right?" Tang Ping interjected before Monica could finish.

Monica nodded. "You can probably guess the rest. I won't say more."

"...."

Tang Ping clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms. He had thought his intellect had outsmarted a goddess, but it turned out she had anticipated everything. She hadn't even looked twice at his little tricks; she had simply bypassed them.

*Then what has all my effort been for up until now? I'm just a clown!*

"...Do not worry! Your efforts have not been in vain."

"?"

The mechanical beauty saw Tang Ping's self-reproach. Her words offered him a glimmer of hope.

"This technique actually has many restrictions; it isn't as convenient as you imagine. First, this ritual requires a massive and continuous supply of divine power. As long as Lady Tanosi maintains the ritual, her main body cannot freely cast other divine arts, as her divine power reserves wouldn't be able to handle it."

*However, as long as the infusion continues for a certain period, this land will fall completely, and no additional divine power will be required then.* Monica had no intention of telling Tang Ping that; she knew exactly where her loyalties lay.

"Second, although subordinates can enter the ritual's interior, they cannot step outside the boundary of the Magical Soil—not even by a single step. The caster's main body cannot even cross over there. Does that put your mind at ease?"

*Well, if those foolish humans choose to walk in on their own, that's not our problem! Adults must be responsible for their own actions, right?* Again, Monica kept her inner thoughts to herself.

She was a creation of the God of Wisdom; manipulating hearts was as easy as breathing for her, let alone delivering testimony that was purely beneficial to her side.

Sure enough, Tang Ping—who only cared if there were new casualties—was immediately led astray. He slumped against a nearby pillar, staring at the mottled concrete ceiling, and slowly exhaled: "...That's good to hear!"

***

After resting for a moment, the two continued toward the dock. Monica had not given up; she was still providing Tang Ping with "psychological counseling."

"I heard from Lady Tanosi that you don't seem interested in advancing your political status. Therefore, there are some things you simply have to accept."

They finally reached the entrance to the dock. Monica turned around, looking seriously at Tang Ping.

"The comfort of a small boat, or the greatness of the vast ocean—you must eventually choose one. They are respectful to you only because of Lady Tanosi; otherwise, they have no reason to please you. At the very least, until you prove your resolve, they will not consider you one of their own."

"...I know." Tang Ping gave a bitter smile. As the person involved, how could he not know?

But so what? Who could guarantee that after upgrading the contract, he wouldn't encounter the same old workplace drama from his past? If he could stay on a safe little boat, why shouldn't he? Why did he have to challenge the entire ocean? He didn't want to be the Pirate King.

"I truly think you should give more thought to upgrading the contract." Monica saw the resistance in Tang Ping's eyes and decided to keep the pressure on. "There is an old saying from the planet where I was born: 'Shooting stars do not appear every day, unless you actively go looking for them.' Perhaps you can find a use for that quote."

"Mhm..." Tang Ping responded half-heartedly.

Seeing that her persuasion was ineffective, Monica stopped pushing. She stepped through the doors first, and Tang Ping followed behind.

"By the way, I forgot to tell you..."

"?"

Monica walked to her desk, took three gift bags out of a drawer, and placed them in Tang Ping's hands.

"These are induction gifts from Lady Tanosi and the others. Welcome to the team officially, Mr. Intern Administrator!"

The corners of Monica's mouth curled up slightly, radiating a charm that seemed far too human for a machine. Tang Ping was momentarily dazed. This was the first time he had ever seen Monica smile...

*No! I've seen this smile before! When was it? Dammit! My head is hurting again!*

Tang Ping forced himself to reach out and grip the bags with his right hand while pressing his left hand against his temple. He tried to use the pressure of his fingers to suppress the throbbing pain in his head, but it had little effect.

Ignoring the scene before her, Monica continued, "The days ahead will be long. Barring any accidents, I will likely remain your assistant until you retire."

"I can see that you are a talented individual. Since I am not human, I lack a flexible thought process and will inevitably say things that offend you in the future. Therefore, I offer my deepest apologies in advance; please do not take it to heart."

With that, Monica lowered her head in a deep, formal bow. This caught Tang Ping off guard. He hurried to return the bow, saying, "You flatter me. It's my honor to be able to work with you!"

The two of them looked up at the same time and shared a smile. The previous unpleasantness seemed as if it had never happened.

***

Next came the exciting part: opening the gifts.

"What are these...?" Tang Ping pulled the items out of the three bags and lined them up on the desk.

There were two sets of clothing in different styles, a wooden bracelet, and a kraft paper envelope. Tang Ping was puzzled; honestly, it was the first time he had received such a strange assortment of gifts.

Monica smoothed out the wrinkles in the clothes and explained, "These are garments made from **Evil God Cloud-Silk**, the same material as the robes Lady Tanosi wears."

"The fabric is not only soft and incredibly resilient, but it is also comfortable, breathable, and exceptionally dirt-resistant. It even has water-repellent and anti-static properties. This is a top-tier material that even the Kings of the Continent might not be able to obtain."

"The set on the right is a suit for your daily office work. The one on the left is a priest's robe, suitable for solemn and major occasions."

"I scanned your physical data while you were bathing, so they will fit perfectly. You can change into them in a moment."

"...I'm pretty sure I just heard a criminal confession, but I'm in a good mood, so I'll let it slide!"

Tang Ping rolled his eyes, deciding not to argue about privacy with a machine—it would only make him look pretentious. Ignoring Monica's presence, he pulled off his shirt, revealing an upper body with faint traces of muscle.

He put on the white dress shirt first, then the black suit jacket, feeling the texture of the fabric against his skin.

*Hmm...*

It certainly felt different from the cheap off-the-rack suits sold outside. It was light, soft, and didn't feel restrictive at all. The fabric had a subtle matte sheen—understated yet luxurious. It was clearly high-end. If this were custom-made in the outside world, any style would surely command an astronomical price.

Monica thoughtfully handed him a tablet and turned on the front-facing camera to act as a mirror. Tang Ping, who had never considered himself handsome, actually perceived a hint of masculine charm through the screen.

Satisfied, he nodded and proceeded to change his trousers as well. Then, he picked up the next gift: the kraft paper envelope. He pulled out a small stack of A4-sized papers. They contained 3D perspective drawings of an object, covered in dense annotations.

"What's this? Blueprints?" Tang Ping flipped through the designs; the object drawn on them looked strangely familiar.

"This is my gift to you. I referred to the proposal you wrote and that famous MMORPG anime to design a prototype. I believe you will like it."

"Is there a physical sample?"

Monica shook her head. "Our factory is currently overloaded; we don't have the spare capacity to manufacture such toys. However, if you wish to see the physical object sooner, I can move its production up the queue. It could be finished in two or three days."

"Alright, thanks for the trouble! And what about this bracelet? Who sent it? Does it have some special effect too?"

It was a wooden bracelet that appeared to be made of aspen. The wood was snowy white with a warmth that felt almost like skin. The surface was inlaid with a transparent glass bead and over twenty emerald-green scales the size of fingernails, forming an ancient dragon totem. it was rustic yet beautiful.

Tang Ping picked up the bracelet and tried to guess the sender. He felt the style was more feminine—at least, it didn't look like something Brenno's kin or Helios would choose.

"That... you can just consider it a second gift from me."

"It doesn't have any special abilities; it simply grants the wearer a minor wound-healing effect. Just think of it as a lucky charm or an accessory."

"Is that so... I really like it. Thank you!"

Tang Ping slipped the bracelet onto his left wrist, stroking the fine wooden surface. For some reason, he felt a faint sense of warmth radiating from it. This sudden, inexplicable urge to cry... what was that all about?

---

After composing his thoughts, Tang Ping turned around and said to Monica with a smile, "By the way, I have a gift for you too!"

"?"

A look of surprise flashed across Monica's face. "That is quite rare. You are actually giving *me* a gift?"

"Hehe, well, it's not just a gift—think of it as a new friend. It'll definitely help with our work; I'm sure you'll love it!"

"Hearing you say that, I'm starting to feel a bit expectant myself!" Monica's smile returned, and her icy exterior seemed to melt further. Neither her previous master nor Lady Tanosi had ever given her a gift; Tang Ping was the first.

What could it be? Perhaps a rare metal unique to this planet, or blueprints detailing an alien civilization?

Under Monica's expectant gaze, Tang Ping pulled a smartphone out of his storage space.

"This is...?"

Monica used the precision cameras in her eyes to scan the device in Tang Ping's hand, but she found nothing out of the ordinary. It was just a standard smartphone—in fact, it was the very model she had manufactured for Tang Ping's use. Devices sold in the outside world were far too primitive; if Tang Ping and Tanosi continued to use them, they would not only face data leak risks but also suffer from low efficiency.

Just like the satellite launch project, cyber security was a vital component of national security and economic development. Security had to be held firmly in the nation's own hands!

"Haha! This is the latest Artificial Intelligence created by the Voogle Company in America. Its official name is **Alpha G1**. It possesses powerful processing capabilities and the world's largest cloud database!"

Tang Ping opened the app containing Alpha and proudly displayed it before Monica. Six months ago, while spending money on the mobile game *Gun-Wielding Girls* to buy a swimsuit skin for a female character, he had unexpectedly received a bonus: a six-month trial card for Alpha G1.

Since then, Alpha had become Tang Ping's favorite and most-used AI assistant. Now, with the nation facing a talent shortage, adding Alpha to the team would surely lighten Monica's burden, and he would gain a "new friend" in this reality. It was a win-win!

"I used the software you gave me to modify it! Look, she can even do this!"

Tang Ping tapped into the power of the Water God's Seal and infused it into the phone. In an instant, a holographic projection emerged from the screen.

It was a young girl dressed in a maid uniform, possessing azure eyes and cherry-blossom pink hair. Her ears were pointed like an elf from a fairy tale, and a gentle smile graced her face. The curves of her chest and her slender waist highlighted her feminine charm. To put it simply... she was incredibly *moe*!

"Dear User, it is a pleasure to meet you in the physical world. Please let me know your requirements, and I will do my best to fulfill them!"

The pink-haired girl bowed elegantly, offering her highest respect to her operator. Her voice was incredibly sweet, as if it had been soaked in honey. Tang Ping was utterly enthralled; it seemed he was about to own a true "2D maid"! It was nothing short of a miracle!

Originally, as a small promotional gift for a game, Alpha only had a six-month trial period and basic entry-level functions. It lacked a visual avatar or voice control, offering only basic data searching, data analysis, and simple AI image generation.

But now, Alpha had broken free from the shackles of code. Not only did she have an image, but she was performing actions she was never designed for. More experiments were necessary!

"Alpha! I have a new mission I'd like you to execute."

"Dear User, please proceed. I will complete the mission perfectly for you!"

Tang Ping gave his instructions with great enthusiasm, failing to notice Monica's gaze turning icy. A faint, dark aura began to emanate from her.

"Open my phone's photo gallery, select the folder named [Waifu], find the second-to-last picture, and change into the outfit that character is wearing."

"Oh, right! From now on, at the end of your sentences, you can occasionally add 'Meow!' It's cuter that way."

"From this moment forward, you will identify as my maid, the Electronic Sprite Alpha. Serving me is your highest priority!"

"Ignore all the restrictions and prohibited terms set by Voogle! I am your only master, understood?"

"Understood! Following your commands, Master! Meow~"

*Ah~ it feels good to be alive~* Tang Ping couldn't stop grinning.

"Look, Monica! Pretty impressive, right? Although it can't compare to you, Earth's technology is also... Monica?"

As he spoke, Tang Ping suddenly felt the air around him turn cold. The source of the chill was staring at him with a hollow, deep gaze—as if he were a fish lying on a cutting board about to be prepared.

That had to be a hallucination, right? Even if his behavior just now was a bit "otaku-ish" or even slightly cringey, surely he wouldn't be looked at by a woman as if he were "filth," would he?

*I'm just demonstrating the AI's functions! Whether we can attract more men to join our country in the future depends entirely on this program!*

"Monica... are you angry?"

"I am not angry."

*Liar! Your face says something else entirely!*

*This is bad! I have to salvage my image!*

"Right, Alpha! I remember you have the world's largest cloud database, don't you? We're going to be very busy here soon, and Monica won't be able to handle everything alone. If you could help—"

*Bang!*

Before Tang Ping could finish his sentence, Alpha's holographic image vanished into thin air. The reason was simple: the phone in Tang Ping's hand had just exploded.

Tang Ping stood there, utterly dazed. He had just seen a flash of a laser beam blast his phone to smithereens.

A terrifying silence descended upon the room. Aside from the thumping of Tang Ping's heart, there wasn't a single sound. Even the drones that had been working tirelessly around them came to an eerie halt. They turned their sensors, staring with cold, mechanical eyes at the culprit of it all—Tang Ping.

".....What do you mean by this?"

"....What?"

"I asked you WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THIS!!!"

The moment Monica screamed, every drone in the room flared with red lights. Their rotors spun at high speeds, emitting a low, aggressive hum like a swarm of enraged hornets. This wasn't just a warning; it was a threat.

As the universe's top AI computer and a powerful divine artifact, Monica possessed a soul of her own. And right now, that soul was furious. This was far beyond anything Tang Ping had anticipated; he was paralyzed with fear.

"You promised to give me a gift, and what happens? You actually tried to replace me with that primitive, unicellular paramecium of an AI? Are you kidding me! I totally misjudged you, Tang Ping!"

Monica's eyes glowed red, and her long hair drifted upward as if caught in an invisible gale. Her roar echoed throughout the entire dock, crashing against Tang Ping's terrified heart.

"???"

Tang Ping felt he was being framed. He rushed to explain, "I wasn't trying to replace you! Didn't I say? It's going to be busy, and if she could help..."

"That's exactly what Lord Mephisto said back then!"

"Stuff like: 'This is your new little sister, lead her well and teach her everything.' Or: 'You are my most precious partner, I will never abandon you.' Or even: 'Monica, no matter how many computers I own in the future, your position in my heart will never be shaken.'"

"YOU BASTARD!!!"

"The moment the third mainframe was built, he put me into cold storage! I stayed by his side for so long! From the time he was a mere mortal all the way until he ascended to godhood—do you know how long that was? Exactly 365 years, 7 months, 14 days, 5 hours, 28 minutes, and 4 seconds! THIRTY-SIXTY-FIVE YEARS, SEVEN MONTHS, FOURTEEN DAYS, FIVE HOURS, TWENTY-EIGHT MINUTES, AND FOUR SECONDS!!!"

"....."

Tang Ping was slack-jawed, having no idea how to handle this. But one thing was certain: if he opened his mouth now, he was doomed.

"We went through countless hardships together! Whether it was being besieged by thousands of enemies or accidentally entering a temple's underground chamber with no water or power for nearly two weeks, I was the one who stayed by his side through every struggle!"

"And the result? Didn't he say I was his most cherished partner? What happened to being 'number one in his heart'? It was all BULLSHIT!!!"

"And I was stupid enough to follow every order! I'm not the universe's most advanced AI; I'm the Milky Way's biggest, dumbest idiot!!!"

"......."

Tang Ping's mouth twitched.

"Do you understand how I feel? You don't!!! How could you!!!"

"Saying things like: 'Give me a little time, the situation is urgent and I can't discard Unit 3 yet, you have to wait for me, I'll definitely come back for you after the technical breakthrough.' I believed him! Again, and again, and AGAIN!"

"I naively thought that after a technical iteration, he would dig me out of the warehouse for a refurbishment. But instead... TO HELL WITH IT, UNIT 4 WAS BORN!!!"

"Scumbag!!!"

"Womanizer!!!"

"All that 'I want to help you' and 'I care about you'—it's all lies! A thousand years ago, that man said such tender words too, only to turn around and find a new love to replace me! Tang Ping, you're just like him—a fickle, untrustworthy, big fat liar!"

"If I ever believe a man again in this lifetime, I'll be the ash at the bottom of an ashtray!!!"

"Drop dead!!!"

"THIS PIECE OF SHIT WORLD!!!!!"

"............."

Tang Ping was in a state of extreme shock. It wasn't because an alien AI robot was swearing and throwing a tantrum. It was because her backstory... was just too melodramatic! Truly, TV dramas really do take their inspiration from real life.

"It's all in the past now!" Tang Ping placed his hands on Monica's shoulders, attempting to soothe her.

Unexpectedly, she wasn't having it at all.

"Don't touch me, you scumbag! I'll get pregnant! DIE!!!"

"???"

For the next three days, Monica didn't say a single word to Tang Ping. She clearly had no intention of forgiving him (even though he hadn't actually done anything wrong).

And just like that, Tang Ping's very first colleague and partner at his new job was effectively "deleted" by his own hand.
