Chapter 12 - The Chain That Binds

[The heartbeat did not stop.]

[It echoed.]

[Slow.]

[Deliberate.]

[Like something that had never needed to hurry.]

Voice — "Welcome, eleventh regressor."

[Abaksa didn't move.]

[He couldn't.]

[Because he recognized it.]

[The tone.]

[The weight.]

[The stillness that crushed everything beneath it.]

Abaksa Einsro— "…Demon Lord."

[Silence answered him.]

[Then—]

A low chuckle.

Voice — "Not yet."

[The chains on the pedestal trembled.]

[Silver light pulsed faintly across their surface, as if resisting something beneath.]

Voice — "But close enough."

[Abaksa stepped forward.]

[Slow.]

[Careful.]

[Every instinct screamed at him to stop.]

[But he didn't.]

Abaksa Einsro— "You're sealed."

Voice — "Observant."

[The chamber shifted.]

[The darkness itself seemed to lean closer.]

Voice — "But seals are merely… delays."

[The chains tightened.]

[Light flared.]

[And for a brief moment—]

[Something beneath them became visible.]

[An outline.]

[Humanoid.]

[But wrong.]

[Too still.]

[Too vast.]

[Like a shadow pretending to be flesh.]

Abaksa Einsro— "…You're not supposed to be here."

Voice — "And yet, I am."

[The pedestal pulsed.]

[The chains flickered.]

Voice — "Just as you are not supposed to be alive."

[Abaksa's grip tightened.]

"…You know."

Voice — "Of course I know."

[The voice grew softer.]

[More interested.]

Voice — "You carry time that does not belong to you."

"You breathe moments that were already spent."

[The air thickened.]

Voice — "You are… a contradiction."

[The system flickered violently.]

[Warning: External Entity Interference]

[System Authority Disputed]

[Abaksa's eyes narrowed.]

"…So you're connected to this."

Voice — "Connected?"

[A pause.]

Then—

Laughter.

Voice — "No."

"I am the reason it exists."

[The words settled like poison.]

[Cold.]

[Heavy.]

"…What?"

[The chains tightened again.]

[Light surged.]

[The voice did not fade.]

Voice — "Fate requires balance."

"Regression requires correction."

"And correction requires… me."

[Abaksa's breath slowed.]

[So that was it.]

[Not just trials.]

[Not just a system.]

[Something deeper.]

"…Then you're here to stop me."

Voice — "No."

[Silence.]

Voice — "I am here to see if you are worth stopping."

[The chamber pulsed.]

[The chains loosened—just slightly.]

[The presence beneath them grew stronger.]

Voice — "You have touched Plot Armour."

"You have broken a correction unit."

"You have reached my threshold."

[Abaksa's heart pounded.]

"…So what now?"

[The voice shifted.]

[Less amused.]

[More… focused.]

Voice — "Now you choose."

[The chains glowed brighter.]

[Two faint paths appeared before the pedestal.]

[One—stable.]

[One—distorted.]

Voice — "Continue as you are."

"Fight fate. Struggle. Survive."

[The stable path flickered.]

Voice — "Or—"

[The distorted path pulsed.]

[Dark.]

[Unstable.]

Voice — "Accept what you have already begun."

[The chamber trembled.]

Voice — "Become something that does not need fate."

[Silence.]

[Abaksa stared at the paths.]

[One was safe.]

[Predictable.]

[The other—]

[Was unknown.]

[Dangerous.]

[But powerful.]

[His fingers tightened.]

"…You're offering me power."

Voice — "I am offering you truth."

[The chains rattled.]

Voice — "Plot Armour is not protection."

"It is theft."

[Abaksa froze.]

Voice — "You steal survival from the world."

"You steal outcomes from others."

[People dying.]

[Events shifting.]

[Consequences… moving.]

Voice — "And eventually—"

[The chains cracked slightly.]

"The world will take it back."

[Silence.]

[Abaksa's breath slowed.]

"…Then I'll take more."

[The words came out calm.]

[Certain.]

[The chamber stilled.]

Voice — "…Interesting."

[The distorted path brightened.]

Abaksa Einsro— "I didn't come back to play fair."

[His eyes hardened.]

"I came back to win."

[He stepped forward.]

[Not toward the safe path.]

[Toward the unstable one.]

[The moment his foot touched it—]

[The chains shattered.]

CRACK.

[Light exploded.]

[Darkness surged.]

[The presence beneath the pedestal rose.]

[The chamber shook violently.]

[Plot Armour Synchronization… Increasing…]

[8%… 9%… 10%…]

[Abaksa's body convulsed.]

[Power surged through him.]

[Not strength.]

[Something else.]

[Awareness.]

[He could feel it.]

[Possibilities.]

[Outcomes.]

[Paths.]

[For a moment—]

[He saw everything.]

[Then—]

[It stopped.]

[The chamber collapsed back into stillness.]

[The pedestal was empty.]

[The chains—gone.]

[The voice—silent.]

[Abaksa stood alone.]

[Plot Armour Partial Unlock: 10%]

[New Trait Acquired: Outcome Awareness (Fragment)]

[His breathing slowed.]

[His body steadied.]

"…So that's what it feels like…"

[He looked down at his hand.]

[For the first time—]

[He didn't feel weak.]

[He felt…]

[Dangerous.]

[Above—]

[The castle trembled.]

Earl Bruts— "…What the hell was that?"

[The ground beneath the dueling arena cracked again.]

Butler Kael— "My lord… something is coming up."

[Back in the chamber—]

[The exit opened.]

[Light poured in.]

[Abaksa stepped forward.]

[Not as the same person who fell.]

[But as something else entirely.]

[And far away—]

[In a place untouched by light—]

[Two eyes opened.]

"So you chose that path…"

[A faint smile formed in the dark.]

"Good."

[The game had changed again.]
