The surgery was done in under three hours.
Feng Suyin had expected longer. Dr. Zhang's reputation was built partly on speed: clean, precise, no wasted motion. She'd read that in his papers. Now she'd seen it. She went to find Yunyi while Ji Yuzhe was moved to recovery, needing something to do with herself.
Yunyi was finishing rounds when Feng Suyin appeared in the pediatric hallway. She took one look at her and steered her toward the vending machine.
"Tea," she said. "Sit."
They sat on the bench with their cups. The hallway was quiet. The floor was that particular shade of institutional green that Feng Suyin had spent half her career walking on without seeing.
"Surgery went well?" Yunyi asked.
"Yes. Dr. Zhang was fast. Cleaner than I expected." Feng Suyin wrapped both hands around the cup. "Now we wait."
Yunyi watched her for a moment. Then: "Suyin. You and Ji Yuzhe. Is there something I should know?"
