Before Bjorn could speak, Donovan approached the woman and took the sword in hand. "Thank you. O-oh! "" Panicked, Donovan bowed his head and quickly turned to rejoin Bjorn.
""
""
Bjorn nodded, leading the way out of the home, and slipped past a few of the playing children. Their piercing young gaze followed them like a hawk, with a couple even following.
"" Their mother called.
In order, they retreated to their mother and siblings, watching as Donovan and Bjorn prepared their departure.
"Hey, Bjorn."
"Yes? What?"
Donovan climbed the back, almost conflicted. "About what happened last night."
"It's fine. What happened? It happened. I'll admit it. I let my guard down. I won't make the same mistake twice."
"No, it's a…." Donovan looked down at the sword in his hand. He sighed. "You know what. Never mind. Let's just get some of that salt and leave."
"Sure. Make sure you put your disguise on, too, and practice that magic, too."
Slowly, Donovan's reflection shone through the dusted swords' reflection. "Right."
********
Kalika sat somberly, looking into the water. The waves of water distorted her reflection ever so slightly, but despite this, the image was all too clear. Her blue skin, yellow eyes, black hair, and her alien black horns still stood out.
A reflection she despised yet felt so naturally her. She twirled a white strand of her hair, then stood and dunked her head into the small waterfall. The cool was over her head, and slowly, she moved inside, drenching her body head to toe.
Her chest and muscles tightened and tensed from the unsavory cold. She steadied the stuttering from her breathing, washing the grime and blood from her face and body, bearing with the water. Eventually, after some time in washing herself, the river water became pleasant bliss. And a brand-new escape from her thoughts.
A sudden splash drew her back, disrupting her peace. She sighed with mild annoyance. "Why?"
Kalika glanced back and watched as Zel followed Res into the deeper shallows of the pool of water. They swam out and sighed in relief. "" Thank goodness we made it out. I thought that big dire wolf was going to eat us.>"
Zel floated about, nodding with Res. She dipped her tail in and out of the water before dipping her body in. ""
""
""
Res paled. She stared at Kalika, shuddering. ""
""
"Eep!" Res slowly sank into the water, drifting away from Kalika.
Noticing this, Kalika leered at the tow and sighed. She then reached for her tail, scrubbing it. ""
"" Zel pondered.
""
""
""
Res poked her out. ""
""
"" Res stood shuddering with elicit thought of death. ""
"" Kalika stated. "Aside from that one servant, I suppose…"
"" Zel said.
Their hesitation was clear, looking at them. unconcerned, she turned and stroked her chin thoughtfully. Suddenly a boy appeared from below her, presenting a crystal. "" He said.
Surprised, Kalika glanced at the small demon boy, desperately trying to give her the crystal. ""
"" Res laughed.
The boy presented the crystal again. ""
""
Although reluctant, Kalika took the blue crystal in her hand. A resonance inside that felt like the flowing fluidity of water was cleverer than ever. Her hand slowly synced to that very resonance, allowing her to absorb the magic from inside.
The boy marveled at the sudden change and, with deep admiration, gazed at Kalika. ""
Res and Zel chuckled lightly at the boy's sudden remarks, distracted away from the sudden shift in the crystal's color.
Not long after, the boy darted away in a hurry, then threw his loose clothes and entered into the forest.
"What a strange child…" Kalika remarked. She then glanced back at the two women, watching as they helped wash each other, content. With a sigh, she placed the crystal on the rocky cliff as the two whispered amongst each other.
"" Res asked. ""
Kalika stiffened from the sudden question. She became silent, drooping her head with a visible frown.
""
"" Zel warned.
Kalika peeked at the two with a hint of annoyance. "< It's fine. As much as I don't want to admit it… It is my…>" She furled her fingers, shaking fingers, unable to grasp them. ""
Res pouted. ""
""
""
Kalika rolled her eyes. "" She turned from the waterfall dove back into the water. "I'll never understand these demons..." She gazed up at the tensed women, as if waiting for the worst. ""
Turning away, Kalika scrubbed and cleaned the last of the blood and grime from her body. Satisfied, she peered back to the shore by the cave, noticing the wolf's watchful gaze. She approached the cave, drying herself and petting the wolf who whined and licked its wound covered by Kalika's fur cape. "If you don't want to die, Keep it on there."
She then peeked back at the Res and Zel, Watching as Zel, calmly helped clean her sister as Res continued pouting like a child. Looking at their clothes, next to hers, an idea suddenly surfaced in her mind. "" Kalika called. ""
Zel turned, puzzled by Kalika. ""
"
"" A faint excitement gleamed in Res's eyes ""
********
A fire erupted within the cave, slowly dissipating into ashes between Kalika and the two women. Res trembled as Kalika turned with a sly hum in her tone. ""
"" Res clung tight to Kalika in her slightly torn attire and tear-drenched eyes.""
"" Kalika pulled from Res's grasp and approached the wolf. "No more following me. This is your home now. And play nice with them. They'll take care of you."
"" Res exclaimed.
Kalika turned to the weeping Res, watching as Zel comforted her. ""
""
""
""
""
"Kalika. Hey, are you still in here?" Donovan peeked from out of the cave with his disguise in effect.
"Oh… Donovan."
"A-are you read-" His gaze quickly shifted to the wolf. A cold sweat ran down his face as he awkwardly reached for his sheathed sword. "U-uuhhh…"
Suddenly, Kalika brushed past him. "Don't worry about that stupid wolf, Its their pet. So lets get back to that contract smith."
He straightened and turned to her. "H-hey wait! That contract smith finished you knife already. Its waiting back at the cart. A-and what happened to your cape?"
"I'm leaving it with the wolf since its already torn-." Kalika stopped, her path blocked by Bjorn, who towered with his arms crossed. "Bjorn?"
"Perhaps you'd like a change in clothes? You can get cold walking around without a cape."
"I'll be just fine-" Kalika grew silent, now staring at a familiar journal. Bjorn handed the book to her and turned to path out. "I thought you said I had to learn to control my blood magic."
"Yeah? Well, I changed my mind." Bjorn said. 'Now, come on we should get going before the army begins is investigation those bounty hunters you killed left a trail of blood last night and its sure to draw some attention.
"Tch!"
"" Res ran out panicked. ""
All eyes drew to Res and Zel as a faint silence filled the air.
"Oh, yeah." Kalika said. ""
""
"" Kalika continued one, forcing Donovan to catch up and she followed behind Bjorn. All the while, Res and Zel could only watch on as they retreated deep into the forest on the path out of the village.

A blue demon boy carried an abundance of crystal within his little arms, up a familiar path blocked by an even larger cart. He gazed in awe at the structure and mouthed. "Valtrop…"
With a giddiness, he approached, placing his crystal at the edge, and climbed up the cart. He quickly took his crystal and looked around the space with wide curiosity. Eventually, he set aside the crystal in his hand and reached for a pouch, discovering a treasure trove of crystals. He drooled with a deep anticipation. Wiping it away, he happily crunched into the first piece, savoring its taste with delight.
