Chapter 14 - Scene 14:

You commit to smoothing things over with Gustavo. The vice-chancellor nods.

"I am glad you are mature."

You leave the office. On your way to the auditorium to ask what happened, you find Gustavo and his three youth companions in the hallway, crossing their strong arms. The shaved-headed boy's severe expression changes to a friendlier one when they see you arrive.

"Comrade, my bad about the campus. I mistook you for one of those progressives. You have to use an iron hand with those people."

He places a hand on your shoulder.

"No hard feelings, right?"

He smiles with very white teeth.

"How about you join us for some cold ones at the Gavidias' place? After all, classes don't start until tomorrow."

To keep you from feeling pressured, he takes his hand off you.

"I admit we tend to be harsh, some might even say inflexible, but our country didn't escape poverty by allowing lefties and anarchists to undermine our morals and institutions. God gave us rich lands; it is man's job to make them count."

Until now you never thought about joining the New Ideal youth, a group whose members are famous for being straight as an arrow, but also infamous for being intolerant and prone to dishing out pain. Even so, if your aspiration is to be aligned with the divine war and the Venezuelan regime, getting closer to the youth would be a beneficial mark on your record.
