Chapter 791 - Chapter 791. Political Maneuver. Seizing Partial Control.

The arrival of the envoys didn't change much, if anything, of what Liu Shu had planned. In truth, they were mostly inconsequential in her plans. At most, these envoys would serve as the "hold on and see" factor that would block any aggression from the Covenant's part.

Of course, to ensure they did their part properly, she had already planned to gradually show her uniqueness and have good conversations with them. Today was such a day.

It had been around a week and a half since they arrived, and now, the Verdant Elder and quite a few other top-tier envoys had gathered in a large conference room within a

The room was able to house over 200 people easily, so the 150-odd people present didn't make it feel crowded in the slightest. Moreover, among these people, those who would actively participate in the conversation numbered at most around 10.

To summarize, there was no one uncomfortable with the venue as everyone took their seats and prepared to discuss important matters.

Liu Shu was participating with her Avatar this time around, sitting at the forefront of the Golden Sap Empire's group. To her left and right, Flor and Seraphina sat silently.

The reason to seat these two closest was that each represented a strong authority. Flor, there was nothing to explain, as she was the de facto leader of the Golden Sap Empire right after Liu Shu.

Meanwhile, Liu Shu's intent to sit Seraphina to her right was to show the Covenant envoys that some of their people had defected to her side and were siding with her. After all, unlike Obsidianis, who had a reason—Veyra's presence during the attack—Seraphina had been a righteous and strongly involved young talent.

If she could convince Seraphina to side with her, there should be something for them to take into account.

"I am glad you made some time to join us for today's first formal and in-depth discussion, Lord Verdant Elder."

Liu Shu started with some basic courtesy, and the Verdant Elder answered in kind. "It is no problem in the slightest. After living in the Golden Sap City for a short time, I had quite a few matters I intended to discuss with Lady Heavenly Willow."

Liu Shu nodded with an understanding expression, and she smiled gently. "Since that's the case, let's change our address to not be so stiff. How about you refer to me as Lady Liu Shu? And if I may, what is Lord Verdant Elder's name?"

The Verdant Elder shook his head. "In our church, when one reaches the level of Verdant Elder, they discard their name and become a Verdant Elder by name. So, calling me Lord Verdant Elder is neither incorrect nor rude."

Liu Shu was a bit confused, but she didn't dig into this peculiarity. Instead, she nodded. "I understand, Lord Verdant Elder. In that case, let's start with what intent Lord Verdant Elder and the other esteemed envoys had come to propose or suggest to our Golden Sap Empire."

"Gladly." The Verdant Elder started. "First, we want to give a formal explanation to our Verdant Sanctity Covenant's actions. As you might know, the war between the Nexus and us has escalated into a full-scale conflict. The entirety of the Star System has raised arms, called allies, and is fighting the scourge of the Abyssal Void Nexus Empire."

Liu Shu nodded. "I am aware. It must be a difficult battle."

The Verdant Elder sighed and nodded. "That's indeed the case. So, when we realized that Rhazor, one of the Nexus's ace generals, had diverted its gaze from the main battlefield, the Verdant Sanctity Covenant saw an opportunity. While it does not sound good or even proper, I will be blunt. Strategically, sacrificing this flank to take advantage of Rhazor's absence was a sound and thoroughly thought-out plan. Here are the results of that choice."

Naturally, the Verdant Elder and the other envoys had not come without a plan. The group they were trying to speak with was an abandoned pawn. Someone they chose to sacrifice. To expect any goodwill at all without resentment from such a party was straight up idealistic and naive.

Therefore, the Covenant gave the Verdant Elder positive battle results to show off and attributed them to Rhazor's absence. Whether they were true or not, only the top of the Covenant would know.

Liu Shu asked. "Are these copies for me?"

The Verdant Elder was a bit confused, but he nodded. "Yes, you can store them away if you please, Lady Liu Shu."

Liu Shu smiled, and one of her roots moved down from the ceiling. The envoys tensed up when they saw the gorgeous and sleek root with blue-glowing veins. Then, to their stupefaction, the root actually divided into four sections, spreading out like a mouth, and swallowed the report.

Liu Shu closed her eyes for a second, and the information in the reports flashed in her mind like a document being uploaded to a computer. Soon, she had absorbed and understood the information.

"I see. These reports do indeed indicate some correlation between Rhazor and the resolution of these conflicts."

Meanwhile, the Covenant people were currently stiff, not really understanding what was happening. The Verdant Elder, while he maintained a perfectly calm facade, was sweating coldly. He smiled, hiding his tumultuous heart, and asked. "Pardon my ignorance, Lady Liu Shu. Why have you… swallowed the reports?"

He wanted to find a more refined verb to explain what he had just seen, but the scene had been so shocking that he blurted out things quite crudely.

Liu Shu blinked and smiled. "A small skill I have. Nothing too important."

By her side, Seraphina and Obsidianis had their eyes slightly locked onto the root that split and revealed a relatively moist and soft interior. Their minds involuntarily went to another word, barely restraining themselves from becoming aroused.

While everyone was shocked, Liu Shu made a calling gesture with her hand, and quite a few roots descended, all of them spitting out a copy of the reports to her people.

This ability left the Covenant envoys heavy-hearted. No one present was stupid, so the implications of Liu Shu being able to "eat" knowledge and immediately print it were just… ridiculous.

The Verdant Elder took a secret deep breath to calm his heart. 'What kind of skill could allow for such a thing? Is it a ? Does it consume ternary essence? If it is a , or worse, a ...'  </p><p>His heart chilled.  </p><p>Liu Shu, having taken over the initiative by perfectly absorbing and comprehending the information that was meant to be talked about for a few hours, spoke to them with a smile. "While I do agree that the gains are substantial, I do have another proposal I have compiled with my limited knowledge. Please, take a look."  </p><p>After Liu Shu took over some of the World-Types, she naturally accessed their databases and plans. Rhazor was an organized and powerful general, someone who gave Liu Shu trouble even with Liu Shu's endless advantages when fighting a defensive battle.  </p><p>Rhazor basically attacked a heavily fortified fortress and was able to put a challenge to the defenses to the point of seeing their limits. Without Xakira holding the front, Liu Shu could only imagine the damage Rhazor would've caused before taking him down.  </p><p>So, Liu Shu looked deeply into Rhazor's plans. The only large unknown in his plans was, surprisingly, Liu Shu herself. The plan was that, after taking over Ceperet and using it as a temporary headquarters, Rhazor would basically sweep over this flank of the Covenant, swallowing at least 10 Solar Systems in less than 20 years.  </p><p>The plans were detailed, and after Liu Shu looked at them, she couldn't find anything to disagree with Rhazor's analysis.  </p><p>The Verdant Elder and the other main Covenant envoys received Liu Shu's report, which she created after deeply analyzing Rhazor's tactics and discussing them with Cael, Xakira, and her other generals.  </p><p>While they read, Liu Shu commented. "As you can see, Rhazor's army had been a powerful one. Not a hastily assembled one. He had powerful Star Lords under him, like Lord Altherion and many others. Moreover, his army had several hundred Level 199 that could've broken through with enough battle experience and become new <Second Ascension> powerhouses." </p><p>Liu Shu's words were not exaggerations. If Rhazor had won against her and killed her entire army, Rhazor's army would've lost many but, at the same time, gained a bunch of top-tier elite forces that would strengthen his power. Not to mention, Rhazor's own level would've increased rapidly. After all, a True World Tree's death gave tremendous amounts of Experience Points.  </p><p>While the envoys read her report, Liu Shu spoke, ignoring their changing expressions. "So, while I do admit that the Covenant winning five Solar Systems on the front line thanks to the Rhazor's absence is quite… admirable, I believe that if Rhazor had not been stopped by me, things would not have looked positive for the Verdant Sanctity Covenant."  </p><p>Basically, Liu Shu was telling them that they had been stupidly lucky that she existed and held this frontline, like a blind cat bumping into a dead rat. While there was not a single derogatory or mocking word in Liu Shu's speech, every single envoy that read her report felt as if Liu Shu's root had whipped their faces, leaving a red mark.  </p><p>The Verdant Elder placed the report back down and smiled. "It is indeed our luck to have Lady Heavenly Willow hold Rhazor from fulfilling the terrifying vision you presented. Your analysis is thorough, Lady Liu Shu. The Covenant does not deny the danger Rhazor represented. However, hindsight naturally sharpens all strategic evaluations. After all, Rhazor completely misjudged your strength and perished here."  </p><p>It was shameless, but the Verdant Elder could not do anything else but drag Liu Shu's reports and achievements down by force and faulty logic. Otherwise, the Covenant and the Golden Sap Empire would be in a debtor and creditor relationship, and the one holding the reins would not be the Covenant.  </p><p>The Verdant Elder could not allow such a thing to happen. So, his mission was to make Liu Shu's achievements sound less impressive than they were. And his wording actually softened Liu Shu's attack.  </p><p>Liu Shu, however, smiled.  </p><p>That smile made the Verdant Elder and the rest feel as if they were prey who had finally taken the bait dangling in front of their eyes.  </p><p>"Lord Verdant Elder is right. How could we ever trust the judgment of the defeated?"  </p><p>Admitting that here lowered Liu Shu's standing, but the cost of that was that the Covenant needed to bury Liu Shu's report. What was needed for such a thing to happen? The Verdant Elder felt as if Liu Shu's root had suddenly coiled around his throat. The answer to that question was… obedience to a certain extent.  </p><p>From the start of the conversation, Liu Shu had never been aiming at merits nor military accomplishments. What she wanted was for all these envoys to feel the shadow of her canopy, and each time they wanted to rebel, for them to look up and see her vast branches above them.  </p><p>While the conversation would continue from now on, Liu Shu now held a terrifying advantage that could buy her some forced loyalty. After all, if Liu Shu sent the current report to the main branch of the Covenant, those above would become incredibly displeased with the Verdant Elder and all the envoys that arrived.  </p><p>In summary, Liu Shu rapidly and almost effortlessly took control of what she wanted. Still, this was a small win in a long-drawn war. She seized the initiative, but her grip was not perfect yet. </p></div></main></div></div><div class="Chapter_pagination__7wErL"><button class="nu_btn Chapter_btn__03Cz2 Chapter_prev__Ykt4T And he was a professional when it came to recklessness.\n\nIt backfired, horribly, in every possible way. He almost died, fled his homeland, and then almost died again, but here he was, not really learning. \n\n\"So dumb,\" the devil voice in his head whispered in disdain, \"How more idiotic can you get?\"\n\n\"As far as idiocy goes deep,\" Lucian answered, accepting the new path of his life, one that might cost him his sanity, \"And it goes deep. And wide.\"\n\nGoal: get wealthy and powerful enough to afford more idiocy\n\nCurrent arsenal: blood, sweat, tears, and pure wits\n\nStart point: gardener \n\nEnd point: unknown\n\nMethod: whatever works\n\n\"I'm a good person,\" Lucian claimed, \"The 'whatever works' should be changed to 'whatever works morally and sensibly' and 'unknown' to 'a glorious victory'.\"\n\nThe devil voice in his head laughed so hard he felt it in his bones, shaking him like a puppet on a string.\n\n──────────────────────────\nTHE CHARACTERS DO NOT BEGIN AS YANDERE, BUT THEY WILL SLOWLY FALL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE AS THE STORY PROGRESSES.
