The alley fell into a tense silence as Ke Yuan and Uncle Shang laid eyes on the lone figure blocking their path.
" Hahaha! This little fucker, you think you are going to rob us after the auction?" Uncle Shang's saber rasped free of its sheath, the blade catching the moonlight. " You must be new in this city. To think you will try such a stunt. Truly tired of your life." He raised his voice, sharp as a whip crack. " Guards! To me!"
Jia Hao's shoulders jumped, his eyes widening in mock terror. " Oh no, guards. How will I survive?"
Then he laughed, low and unhurried.
Footsteps thundered down the alley, but only two guards skidded to a stop behind Uncle Shang, breathless and pale. Uncle Shang's brow furrowed. " Where are the rest? I ordered seven men stationed near this street!"
" S-sir, we heard the whistle, but no one else came…"
" They're sleeping." Jia Hao cut in lazily, examining his nails. " Quite soundly, actually. I made sure of that personally."
