I stared at the potion in my hand for a few seconds longer than I probably should have.
The liquid inside the vial shimmered faintly whenever it caught the light, swirling slowly like it had a mind of its own. Honestly, the thing looked way too suspicious for something she casually called "safe." Potions in this world either solved your problems or gave you brand new ones. Sometimes both, if the universe was feeling creative that day.
A little apprehension crept into me as I continued looking at it.
After all, I had no clue what kind of effect this thing would actually have on Layla.
"You really don't have to look so cautious about it," she said with a small laugh. "This potion has already been proven and tested."
That did not make it sound less suspicious.
People in this world would call something "tested" after one guy survived drinking it and only exploded a little.
"You've heard of mermaids before, right?" she continued.
