A faint smile played on Benjamin's lips.
"Same time. Same place," he said calmly before ending the call.
He slipped the phone back into his pocket and let out a slow breath before turning to face the woman who had once been his favorite cousin.
"Mercy," he said quietly, "I'll ask you this once."
Mercy swallowed hard, forcing herself to meet his eyes.
"Okay."
His stare was merciless.
"Were you involved in Bianca's death?"
Her breath caught.
"I—"
"Think carefully," he cut in, his voice dangerously calm. "The next words you utter will shape the rest of your days."
Silence swallowed the corridor.
My God… he hasn't let go of Bianca's death.
Mercy felt her knees weaken.
If she lied, and he found out later, she knew Benjamin would make her regret breathing. And if she told the truth…
Her mind flashed back to the hospital. His warning. His eyes.
She started shaking.
Tears filled her eyes as she gave the smallest nod.
"Yes, Benjamin… but I swear—"
