Strange as it may seem, neither Lakma nor Adam expected what happened to happen.
Right up until the very last moment, this wasn't part of Adam's plan.
When he saw the Glass Root and realized that Lakma was simply the energy of the deceased real Lakma, a simple strategy formed in his mind.
If he defeated Lakma, he would take the Glass Root, and that would be the end of it.
Now, from Lakma's words, Adam knew that four Phantoms before him had tried to do the same thing. However, none of them had been strong enough. Lakma's energy had defeated each of them, and even for Adam, this fight was no easy task.
He couldn't defeat Lakma fairly. The only way was to wear her down, which is what he'd been doing for most of their fight.
But the more he thought about Lakma's nature, the more sadness crept into his mind. He blocked and dodged her attacks on reflex, which gave him enough time to consider various scenarios.
