Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7

I was wondering about everything that had transpired and how we had ever gotten to this point as I sat in the VIP area of the hospital lounge, staring up at the ceiling.

---

As the woman is taken inside the hospital, the nurses and emergency personnel congregate towards the entrance of the building. I follow them as they wheel her around, keeping my distance as we approach the floor.

The nurse approached me who spoke to me previously.

Your fiancé is receiving care, sir. If anything goes wrong, take a seat, and we will let you know. She says something. A scowl spreads across my face as I cast a glare at the region we are in.

"Get my fiance in the VIP, right away! I need all the medical staff to attend to her. I give stern orders. Her eyes widen at my tone, but as soon as she notices the VIP access on my card, she dashes to tell the others.

I see them hurriedly bringing her to the VIP area.

When the nurse returns, she directs me toward the VIP lounge in the hospital.

"Sir, don't worry. The best care is being given to your fiancé. I nod in agreement as she says, "I can guarantee she will be alright.

---

I pause and take a moment to reflect as I recall all the memories. Really, do I care about this person? No. She is, however, my golden ticket to the organization because I undeniably feel a connection with her.

If it meant not being able to stand someone else, I'd be willing to make the sacrifice. It's not like I'll ever think of her as my wife or feel anything for her other than the strange tug my body feels.

Your fiancé is no longer in danger, sir. A few nurses and physicians are currently keeping an eye on her to see if she has made any progress. However, since she has not moved, they have formally acknowledged that she is in a coma. Although we are unsure of the precise time she will awaken, we can give an approximation of one day to two months. We will communicate with you to determine her next move if she is not awake by that time. The nurse explains and comes over to me.

"I do have a question for you. Are there any blood relations we could get in touch with right away for her. Because learning about her medical history might make it much simpler for us to tackle this case?" She inquires.

I flat-out lie, saying, "No, she doesn't have any relatives, but I could try to find her medical records." She smiles at me dejectedly.

"Sure, that. Please try to complete that as soon as you can. It will be best if you act quickly. She ends and gets to her feet.

I give a chilly "Will do" response as she nods.

"If you'd like, you can go see her in the room." Before turning around and walking away, she says.

I let my head a brief rest before getting to my feet and entering the space. When I walk in, I notice a woman laying on the bed with a breathing mask on and numerous wires attached to her. In other words, the scene appeared to be exceedingly gloomy.

One nurse called out "Sir" and pushed a chair my way. There were so many whispers, but no one dared to speak, so I presume the nurses and doctors started finding out my real identity.

The personnel and employees of the hospitals that I own a portion of are aware that anything involving Roman and I stays in the hospital and that no other patients or anybody else is permitted to disclose anything without risking a three million dollar fine.

People are kept in fear and soon silenced by the steep penalties.

My phone started buzzing as I was sitting in the chair. I pulled my phone from my pocket and checked to make sure Roman was calling.

I ask when taking up the phone, "Yes?"

How in the world are you! The business is asking why you haven't returned, and your father is going nuts. He screams on the other end, which makes me cringe a little.

I provide a monotone response, "I'm in the hospital."

He screams loudly, "THE HOSPTAL," as I remove the phone from my ear.

Yes, the hospital, now tell me what you want.

He asked, "Dude, why are you in the hospital?" He asks with a hint of dread in his voice.

"No cause. However, I'm not in danger. I provide a monotone "I'll call you later" response.

"No cause? What exactly does that mean? What the heck, forget it. Knowing that even if I threatened you as well, you wouldn't tell me. He declares, "I'm on my way.

I begin to say, "No don't," but he hangs up on me. I take the phone out of my ear and give it a furious look. I pull out my laptop and a few files as I recline and start to finish the remaining papers.

-----

A nurse barges in as I'm mid-read through some files, causing me to stiffen and swivel my head in his direction.

Sir Anderson is here and requests that we show him where you are, Sir Marco. Should we bring him here? He asks in a distressed manner. Roman shouts at the nurses and physicians, demanding information from them, and even from a distance I can hear his enraged tone.

I sternly told him, "Let him through," and he instantly turned around after nodding. A moment later, a furious-looking Roman storms in, ready to snap at me for my actions, but he keeps his mouth shut when he realizes what is happening.

His eyes widen as he alternately scans the women on the bed and I, until he blinks and musters the strength to finally speak.

What in the name of God is happening in here? After a long pause, he asks.

She collided with the car next to me and was ultimately hurt by a drunk driver, so please lower your voice. I said, "Long story short, she's in a coma," and then I gave a little explanation.

After another pause, he says, "And why are you here?"

"I mean, isn't it clear? I say, rolling my eyes, "I need a wife, and she is the best person to fill that roll.

Are you saying that the well-known cold stone has feelings for someone? His grin grows as he teases.

"Nope. She is a good business partner. My life will become much easier if I choose to make her my wife. Aside from the fact that I don't genuinely feel anything for her, it would just be a relationship that I would break once I had the business in my hands and people started to think that I had married her out of love. So, the interaction would last for roughly a year," I say coldly, drawing a snort from him.

"Are you implying that you would simply disregard that? Really, you don't have any taste in ladies. The fact that he implied she was pretty made me want to choke him for some reason. It appeared as though he was attempting to seize control and break his neck in two.

Do you even know her name or anything about her, I suppose? For all we know, she might be married or even have a boyfriend. He asked queries that made me look blankly at a wall. I didn't even contemplate that possibility because I didn't think that far ahead.

"In that scenario, be useful and learn everything there is to know about her. I ask for a file of her in 10 minutes, and all he does is stare at me with narrowed eyes.

He mutters under his breath, "Demanding bastard", which makes me turn around and stare at him.

"Wanna repeat that, Roman?" I wonder why I arched my brow.

He says, his voice barely audible, "No" before standing up and reaching for the door.

"I believe so, please resume your work."
