Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Ripples Begin to Rise

Godolkin University, A-Wing academic building.

Inside the classroom, Professor Brink held a laser pointer, gesturing toward the screen while lecturing passionately.

His deep voice sounded like it was coming from very far away, making Wade feel drowsy.

Jordan Li, sitting beside him, frowned and glanced over, poking him in the waist several times with a finger: "Hey, no sleeping!"

Wade swatted his hand away and nodded.

He couldn't be blamed for zoning out. If it were actually about developing superpowers, he would definitely listen carefully; but Professor Brink was just spouting brainwashing PR jargon, theories about heroic supremacy and sacrifice, all to cultivate and supply talent for Vought Corporation.

'It's all bullshit, a complete waste of time.'

He pulled himself together, his gaze falling on the blank notebook, while his consciousness had already sunk deep into his body, sorting through his gains from this period.

[Fused Super Genes: Primary Advanced Level: Airflow Manipulation, range 20 meters; Super Strength, Agility, Defense; High-speed Healing; Night Vision; Blood Control; Form Shifting; Mind Control (Independent, incompatible); Secondary Basic Level: Energy Impact; Phantom Generation; Invisible Skin; Insect Driving; Force Transmission; Gravity Rock Bind; Flame Breath; Freeze Vision]

Only then did he realize that [Invulnerability] and [Steel Skin] had somehow merged, advancing into the stronger [Super Defense].

'If superpowers of the same type have different focuses, can they be merged?'

During this time, Wade had been attending classes during the day and either fighting or on the road at night, tallying up all the details.

The pen he was twirling in his hand suddenly stopped, and he had an epiphany: 'I can't actively fuse abilities; they must be naturally tempered and merged through intense combat and daily use!'

'Then what about the other abilities? Use it or lose it?'

No wonder he felt his abilities becoming smoother recently; it seemed his proficiency had increased.

Wade always followed the principle of using different abilities for different identities and occasions, keeping each identity independent and never revealing any connection.

On the Godolkin campus, he only used his [Gas Manipulation] ability, at most with slightly enhanced physical fitness and innate mental protection.

'Then how can I further improve and develop my Gas Manipulation?' Wade doodled on his notebook, drawing small circles one moment and large ones the next.

He suddenly condensed a thumb-sized air mass in front of him, watching the various gas molecules and dust particles flowing inside, his thoughts becoming clearer.

He could either take the precision route, sensing and manipulating the movement of gas molecules to develop the chemical effects of different gas components; or take the large-scale gas solidification route, training the level of airflow manipulation in high-pressure environments to further exercise his ability to push and guide airflow.

'Don't bite off more than you can chew; the precision route can wait until I've finished cramming the chemical effects of various gases...'

Wade decided to start with the solidification route. If he could skillfully manipulate heavy gases in high-pressure environments, it would only be easier and more powerful under standard atmospheric pressure in daily life.

Otherwise, just like when he was targeted by "Heavy Rock" and "Magnetic Earth" before, once the combat environment changed and his gas abilities were neutralized, Wade couldn't even execute his moves.

His signature [Gas Manipulation] was almost rendered useless, and the embarrassing situation where he had to rely on his physical fitness to struggle through the fight was still fresh in his mind.

'If I'm forced into close-quarters combat, then the moniker "Cyclone" will truly become a joke.'

The bell rang, and Jordan Li's dissatisfied voice came from beside him: "Wade, why do you always zone out? Be careful or you'll fail!"

Wade snapped back to reality and found that Jordan Li had shifted back to his male form, arms crossed, clearly having some complaints about him as a "problem student."

He rubbed his eyes: "Sorry, Professor's dedicated little assistant, I didn't sleep well last night."

Jordan Li leaned in, bumped his shoulder with a fist, and asked with an inquisitive look: "Where have you been going at night lately? I can't catch you in the dorm or the classroom. Honestly, did you find some... good place outside? It's not cool to keep it to yourself."

Wade hooked his arm around his shoulder and punched him back: "What are you thinking? I'm a loyal follower of Professor Brink. I've been practicing his community service theory, going to give some... criminals 'psychological counseling' to accumulate some combat experience. I was busy all night and just got some small results."

"As if I'd believe that." Jordan Li crossed his arms and scoffed, "Look at how soft you are; you were definitely out messing around!"

Wade smiled and didn't press the topic further.

Changing the subject, he glanced at Luke in the distance and asked casually: "By the way, I heard Luke has a younger brother. Luke is so strong, how is his brother's ability?"

The smile on Jordan Li's face faded slightly, and he subconsciously glanced at Luke, who was playing around with Cate.

His voice lowered, and he spoke solemnly: "You mean Sam? His ability is strong, but I heard he lost control of his powers half a year ago."

Jordan Li tapped his own temple with his finger and whispered, "Here, the situation is very bad. It seems he's receiving special treatment off-campus... You must never mention it in front of Luke; he doesn't like it."

Wade nodded, showing a sympathetic expression on his face, but his heart stirred: 'Off-campus? Isn't he locked up in The Woods laboratory on campus?'

A powerful, out-of-control super-powered individual being kept in isolation... this was simply the perfect "wild" high-level research specimen.

Just then, the class bell rang.

The classroom door was pushed open, and Professor Brink walked in holding his phone, looking somewhat serious: "Jordan, watch over them, study hall for now."

His gaze swept across the classroom and settled on the little Translucent, who was wearing a hat and black-rimmed glasses, his whole body transparent.

Professor Brink beckoned: "Maverick, come with me. Now."

Maverick's chattering stopped abruptly, and he seemed somewhat at a loss.

Everyone in the classroom cast curious, and even gloating, glances.

Maverick stood up nervously and followed the professor out of the classroom.

As soon as the door closed, the classroom instantly erupted into a buzz of conversation.

"What did he do this time?"

"What else could it be? I heard yesterday in the girls' locker room... he was secretly doing that kind of thing."

"That's not all! Someone complained that he was stalking them while invisible!"

"I heard he plays 'night raids' at night, targeting both men and women..."

The gossip became more and more outrageous, filled with dissatisfaction toward the little Translucent.

Wade listened and looked at the calm-faced Andre, asking curiously: "He acts like this daily, hasn't he ever been complained about?"

Andre tossed the coin in his hand and said nonchalantly: "His dad is Translucent from The Seven, one of Vought Corporation's trademarks. As long as he doesn't kill anyone, the school will naturally smooth over these 'little hobbies' for him."

He paused and added: "My dad debuted a few years before Translucent... He said this father and son are the same, voyeurism is a common occurrence."

Wade nodded in understanding. Only he knew that Professor Brink suddenly calling away the little Translucent so seriously could not possibly be because of those harmless "little hobbies."

Vought Corporation must have discovered that Translucent's positioning signal had completely disappeared and they couldn't find him.

The higher-ups were shaken, and the pressure was passed down to the Godolkin administration, which had close ties with the company, to have the little Translucent assist in the investigation.

Wade calmly took out his phone and quickly browsed Vought Corporation's official news and social media... it was calm, with no information about Translucent's disappearance or leave.

He put down the phone, feeling reassured: 'It seems they are still in the secret search phase.'

The positioning device had been physically destroyed by him, smashed to bits, and the scene traces at New York Harbor that night had been cleaned up thoroughly.

Afterward, he had even taken Translucent on a few large loops along the Atlantic coast before returning to the cave laboratory.

Even if Vought Corporation's various departments racked their brains, the clues would never lead back to him, Wade Thompson.

'Dead or alive, they need to see the body. Vought Corporation couldn't possibly announce the news of Translucent's disappearance so quickly... I'll just keep those recordings for now, and when the time comes, I'll slap them in the face hard!'

Wade relaxed and blended into the surrounding students' discussion, wearing the same curious expression as everyone else, interjecting with jokes from time to time.

But in his heart, he was constantly calculating how to secretly explore The Woods laboratory.

"Breaking in is suicide, I'll stake it out first... I'll use insects to guard the outside of the power substation and record the timing and patterns of their comings and goings."
