Even Father Carter couldn't help but glance twice at Jane Sampson when he entered the room, complimenting her with one sentence that she's gotten prettier recently, with her face becoming more round.
Jane Sampson was still smiling at the first sentence, but after hearing the next one, she felt a little displeased.
"Daddy, why can't compliments be straightforward? I was happy, and you dampened my spirits." Jane Sampson grumbled, "I'll weigh myself after meals to see how many pounds I've gained to become this noticeably plump."
She hadn't stepped on the weighing scale the entire month she stayed with James Black.
"At least three catties," Father Carter replied suppressing his laughter, "Think about how much three catties of pork is, growing that much meat on you, it can't not be noticeable, it's not just three ounces."
Jane Sampson touched her face, "I feel like I'm almost depressed."
