"Yes, I want to eat." The little girl swallowed, glanced at her mother, then nodded honestly.
"Then come to my house and be my daughter, and I'll cook delicious food for you every day. How about it?" Jane Sampson asked with a grin like a sly old granny.
The little lass glanced once more at her smiling mother, then gave James Black a quick peek.
Seemingly pondering, hesitating for a few seconds.
She crisply shouted to Jane Sampson, "Mom!"
Then turned to James Black and called out, "Dad!"
