Kevin didn't want Claire to cry, so he covered her mouth, but unexpectedly covered her nose too. The child was too small and didn't have the strength to struggle; her face was turning red. Fortunately, Alton discovered it early; a little longer and she might have suffocated.
Alton grabbed Claire, who wailed loudly. She was completely terrified.
Seeing the child cry, Alton was relieved. If something happened to this little one, he'd feel guilty for life.
Alton lamented his fate in his heart. He thought he was an honest man, yet he ended up as Kevin's lackey, doing bad things, and almost accidentally harming the child this time.
"Alton, stop her crying, or someone will find out."
Kevin was worried the old man would find out, and if he did, he'd be in for a lecture.
"Kevin! Do you know you almost suffocated her just now?" Alton said harshly.
Kevin was taken aback, as Alton had never spoken to him in such a stern tone before.
