Synopsis
In the desolate city of Veridium, where shadows stretched longer than hope and desperation clawed at every heart, there lived a man named Valerian. His life had been a symphony of sorrow, abandoned by his family and shunned by his friends. Fate had twisted its cruel fingers around his destiny, wrapping him in a shroud of darkness that seemed impossible to escape. Valerian's body had been ravaged by a relentless illness that sucked the very essence from his veins. His eyes, once vibrant and full of life, had dulled to a cold, unfeeling gray. Each labored breath was a painful reminder of his mortality, and as his body weakened, a single thought consumed his mind: power. The kind of power that could command fate itself, that could transcend the boundaries of life and death. One fateful night, as his life flickered like a dying ember, a mysterious force surged through Valerian's veins. A blinding light engulfed him, and when it faded, he found himself in a new world. A world with rules akin to a twisted game, where power could be obtained through trials and tribulations.

Chapter 1 - Forsaken Origins

The wind howled through the desolate streets of Veridium, carrying with it the stench of decay and despair. A city once bustling with life now lay in ruins, its grand architecture a haunting reminder of its former glory. Among the crumbling buildings and shattered dreams, a figure emerged, cloaked in darkness.

Valerian stepped cautiously, his boots crunching on the debris-strewn cobblestones. His eyes, once bright and full of promise, were now cold and calculating, like two shards of ice that had replaced his soul. His tattered cloak billowed in the wind, a tenebrous banner of his forsaken existence.

A bitter chill crawled down his spine as he navigated the labyrinthine alleys. Memories of his past life, of the family and friends who had abandoned him, clawed at the edges of his consciousness. They were ghosts that haunted his every step, a constant reminder of the betrayal he had endured.

As Valerian wandered, lost in the mire of his own thoughts, he stumbled upon a group of scavengers. They were gaunt and hungry, their eyes devoid of hope as they rummaged through the remains of a shattered marketplace. Valerian's gaze hardened as he observed their feeble attempts to eke out a meager existence.

With a flick of his wrist, he conjured a flickering orb of holy light, its ethereal glow illuminating the darkness around him. The scavengers recoiled, shielding their eyes from the blinding radiance. Valerian's voice was laced with a chilling edge as he addressed them, his tone devoid of compassion.

"Tell me, vermin," he sneered, "do you fear the light? Or is it the darkness that truly terrifies you?"

The scavengers exchanged nervous glances, their faces etched with a mixture of awe and dread. One of them, a frail woman with dirt-streaked cheeks, mustered the courage to speak.

"We mean no harm, sir. We're just trying to survive in these harsh times."

Valerian's lips curled into a disdainful smirk. "Survive? Is that all you aspire to? To crawl through the dirt like worms, clinging to scraps?"

His words were a venomous mockery of their plight, a cruel reminder of the power imbalance that separated them. The scavengers cowered before him, their shoulders slumped in defeat. Valerian's orb of light dissipated, plunging them back into the suffocating darkness.

"Pathetic," he spat, his voice dripping with contempt. "If you wish to continue breathing, stay out of my way."

With that, Valerian turned and strode away, leaving the scavengers to their grim reality. The echoes of his footsteps reverberated through the desolation, a haunting cadence that underscored his newfound purpose. Power was his only currency, and he would stop at nothing to attain it.

As he ventured deeper into the heart of Veridium, Valerian's thoughts drifted to the strange world that had become his new reality. The game-like system that governed this realm was a puzzle waiting to be unraveled, a means to an end that he would master with ruthless efficiency. His path was clear: ascend the ranks, unlock untold power, and cast aside the shackles of weakness that had plagued him in his former life.

The chapter closed with Valerian, a solitary figure cloaked in darkness, striding toward an uncertain destiny. The city of Veridium whispered his name, a name that would soon be etched into the annals of its grim history—a name that would come to be both feared and revered, synonymous with a darkness that defied all redemption.

But let's go back...
