Ben's mind went blank at that moment; of all things, he had to be reincarnated: into a world about to experience the apocalypse; as cold sweat started to run down his back, Ben tried to think of all the different types of apocalypses that could occur.
The two most likely themes of the apocalypse are nuclear war or a runaway climate; both are terrible, but he might have a higher chance of surviving those.
Two other themes would be a zombie apocalypse or an alien invasion. "He thought to himself, now an alien invasion could be cool." Heck, there could even be some cute alien girls. The zombie apocalypse though, Ben dreads that sort of scenario. He's had a deep fear of zombies since he was a kid, and it would be a nightmare for him to face them.
However, no matter what apocalypse was going to occur, he knew he needed a base. Before deciding what kind of base he wanted, he decided to look at this so-called mechanic.
Now, how do I activate it? Ben, tried calling out the word system or statuses to see if anything would pop up like in the novels he read but nothing showed. Just as he was beginning to think he had seen the message wrong, a message popped up in front of his face, "To access the mechanic, just simply speak or think the word mechanic."
Ben felt embarrassed for not thinking of doing something that simple; quickly getting over his embarrassment, he thought of the word mechanic, and in front of him popped up a blue screen.
*Mechanic*
-base
-vehicles
-weapons
-other
The screen looked pretty basic because he didn't have anything listed yet. Ben learned that with the Mechanic he could create or upgrade any machine. This included firearms, vehicles, and even buildings if he was the one who created them.
If he wants to upgrade a vehicle or firearm that doesn't belong to him, he would need to scan it with the mechanic. The limitation is that he needs to have the materials first to be able to create or upgrade things.
If he wanted to create specialized things such as AI, he must have the code for the AI already written out and then scanned by the system.
After sorting out the Mechanic, Ben started to think about the four different bases he could have based on the novels he had read; land base, mobile base, water base, or sky base. Immediately, he pushed the sky base and the water base to the back of his mind, he didn't have the space to build either one of those without someone finding out about them.
So he turned his attention to the land and mobile bases. He especially liked the idea of the mobile base since all the novels he read made it seem appealing, but he had to think of his sister. Moving her around would be dangerous, especially since he didn't know what type of apocalypse he would be facing. In the end, he went with a land base.
Now where to build it, he could refurbish the house they already lived in, but they lived in the suburbs, which would be dangerous if it was a zombie apocalypse. While, deep in thought about where to build the base, he looked at the clock and saw it was almost time to take Ziva to school.
Shelving the problem of the base's location for later, Ben hurried to put on his clothes and wake up his sister; she was not a morning person.
"Ziva, wake up and get dressed you're going to be late for school", yelled Ben while he tried to hurry and make her a to-go breakfast. By the time he was done making her breakfast, she still hadn't come down. Grumbling to himself about also wanting to sleep in he stomps up the stairs to go drag his sister out of bed.
When he got to her room and looked inside she was still tucked underneath her covers. With an annoyed sigh, he grabbed the edge of the covers and yanked them off. Finally waking the sleeping koala who whined, "Five more minutes".
"No, you're going to be late for school. Now get up you lazy koala.", said Ben.
Giving him an aggrieved look Ziva stated, " Koalas aren't lazy. It's just how they are". "Yeah, whatever go brush your teeth and get dressed so we can leave."
