Mama sighed and looked away. "It's a long story, cub. Let's just say, that after I escaped, I was deemed a traitor, and we haven't really spoken since."
I hugged her. "It's okay. At least you're free."
She smiled and hugged me back. "Yeah. I am. And I wouldn't have it any other way."
Yukihina's song ended and she looked in our direction. Her eyes met mine for a brief moment, and I felt a chill run down my spine. There was something sad and cold about her gaze, like the winter sea.
Mama held on to me, watching Yukihina with apprehension as if she might strike at us at any second. But she didn't. She just walked toward us.
"Long time no see, Snow Reaper," she said, her voice soft, yet cold.
Mama took a deep breath and let me go, stepping off the wagon. "It has. Why are you here?"
Yukihina stopped a few feet away. She took a quick glance at me. "I could ask you the same question. You even brought your fry with you."
Fry? I was no fish!
