Chapter 293
We walked out of his quarters and climbed onto the motorcycle. The sun was still high, the day still young. The streets were busy, people going about their lives, unaware of the danger lurking beneath the surface.
We rode through the city, weaving through traffic. The wind rushed past us. I pressed my face against Dafa's back and closed my eyes.
We reached a small house on the outskirts of the city. The moment we stopped, something felt wrong.
The house was old. Worn. The garden was overgrown, wild, like no one had tended it in years. The fence was crooked, the paint peeling. A single bird sat on the roof, watching us with unblinking eyes.
My heart began to pound.
Dafa parked the motorcycle and helped me off. I didn't move at first. My feet felt rooted to the ground.
"Alayna?" Dafa's voice was low. "What's wrong?"
I shook my head. "I don't know. Something feels... off."
