Dafa looked at me with questions on his face, but he didn't press me. He just let it sit there between us, unspoken. I was grateful for that. Grateful that he knew when to push and when to wait. Grateful that he understood some things couldn't be rushed.
"I should go now," I said quietly.
He nodded. "I'll take you to the hospital."
I shook my head. "You don't have to. I can go by myself. Besides, I don't want to be a burden to you, Dafa."
He stepped closer, his eyes searching mine. "You're not a burden at all. I need to go to the hospital to check the minister's condition anyway."
I nodded. "Okay, let's go together then."
The morning air was crisp and cold as we stepped out of the base. The sky was a pale grey, the sun struggling to break through the haze of clouds that hung over the city like a shroud. I pulled my jacket tighter around me, feeling the chill seep through the fabric.
