Chapter 19 - Spar with Sensei

The battle intensified on the training ground, Yuki's moves smooth and determined. Her strikes showed her dedication to mastering taijutsu, each punch and kick aimed to break through Takao's defenses. Despite the odds, she stayed focused.

Takao, experienced and calm, faced Yuki's attacks with precision. He dodged effortlessly, using quick reflexes to block and counter her moves. He watched her closely, analyzing her actions as they fought.

Tension filled the air as Yuki's determination clashed with Takao's expertise. The ground seemed to shake with their powerful strikes. Yuki's breath grew heavy, but her resolve held strong. She wouldn't give up, even against Takao's skill.

Meanwhile, Yuto and Kosuke moved silently through the woods, keenly aware of the battle. They looked for weaknesses in Takao's defense, waiting for the right moment to strike. They aimed to capitalize on an opening Yuki might create.

As the fight continued, Yuki's determination paid off. She adjusted her strategy, mixing up her attacks to surprise Takao. Her persistence led to a glancing blow on his shoulder, showing her growth.

Takao's expression remained composed, respect in his eyes for Yuki's progress. He acknowledged her with a nod, stepping up his game. The battle's intensity grew, their skills clashing.

Amidst the fierce clash between Takao and Yuki, a stream of thoughts flowed through Takao's mind. "Her taijutsu is quite advanced for a high Genin – almost reaching Chunin level. Her stances are solid, and her use of the gentle fist leaves minimal openings. Their retreat while she engaged me... it appears they've strategized."

Suddenly, a flurry of kunai and shurikens sliced through the air, aimed at Takao. Reacting swiftly, he deflected them with precision using a well-aimed kunai, identifying their source. As the battle continued, Yuki's fatigue became evident. The battle's intensity had taken a toll on her, and she longed for its conclusion.

At that moment, a kunai emerged from an unseen angle, hurtling towards Takao. Yuki's instincts kicked in, and she seized the opportunity, employing a chakra-infused paper tag. The tag unleashed a cascade of shurikens aimed at Takao. But in an instant, the shurikens struck a wooden log, revealing Takao's adept evasion.

Undeterred, Yuki activated her Byakugan through practiced hand signs. With this enhanced sight, she spotted Takao perched on a nearby tree. Swiftly adapting, Yuki hurled shurikens at him, aiming to exploit his exposed position. However, her attempt to retreat was thwarted as Takao's skilled hand grabbed her foot, yanking her to the ground.

As Yuto watched, he realized what technique Yuki was caught in. "So that's the Earth Style: Double Suicide Decapitation Technique," he thought. He recognized that Yuki was now trapped, but this also presented an opportunity. With quick thinking, he decided to send a lightning clone to free her from the technique while drawing Takao's attention away.

Employing his keen observation haki, Yuto's perception honed in on Takao's movements. He noticed that Takao was heading towards Kosuke's direction. Recognizing this opportunity, Yuto strategically distanced himself, preparing to provide support to Kosuke.

Meanwhile, as Takao moved towards Kosuke, thoughts ran through his mind. "That's one opponent down. And what was that tag? It managed to surprise me a bit," he reflected. His senses didn't detect Yuto's presence, which led him to believe that Yuto might reveal himself by assisting Kosuke.

Takao arrived at Kosuke's position just in time to face a swift sword strike. He reacted quickly, drawing his tanto and deflecting the strike with precision. Kosuke pressed on, increasing his speed and launching strikes, but Takao's defenses held strong, preventing any of the strikes from connecting.

As the duel between Kosuke and Takao unfolded, Yuto took action. He sent out a shadow clone, introducing another element to the battle. Takao's sharp instincts kicked in as he noticed shurikens coming his way. He maneuvered skillfully, evading both the sword strike and the shurikens. However, the shurikens unexpectedly altered their trajectory, forcing Takao to redirect them with his tanto. But in doing so, he felt a shock, and the 'click' sound from his blind spot set off his battle instincts. Without hesitation, Takao flickered away, putting a significant distance between himself and the source of the danger. A massive crash followed, as a tree fell, echoing through the area.

Takao went to investigate. Arriving at the fallen tree's location, he was met with a surprising sight. Within a radius of 10 meters, every tree had been cut down, leaving an open expanse.

Takao's thoughts raced, "This technique... it has to be Yuto's. I've saw some report on them and their abilities, but I didn't expect Yuto to elevate it to this level. He's already operating at a Chunin level. And that attack, it's reached the level of an A-rank technique. Let's find out where they've gone."

As Takao followed their trail, he encountered a trap. It triggered a barrage of shurikens and kunai. Swiftly dodging, Takao noticed some of them altering their path and colliding with each other. Two projectiles aimed straight for his heart, but he countered by deflecting them with a kunai. In his mind, he determined, "The same tactic won't work twice."

Reacting to the threat, Takao swiftly substituted himself with a log, anticipating Yuto's move moving out of his range. Yet, Yuto had already sensed his location. He unleashed two kunai and three shurikens towards Takao. Instantly, Takao activated his Earth Style: Rock Shelter, creating a protective barrier to fend off the incoming weapons. However, a deafening "Boom" resounded, shattering the Rock Shelter into fragments.

Takao's thoughts raced again, "Ah, so he sensed me deflecting the weapons to hide my position, and used static force to guide them instead. Clever."

In the midst of Takao's thoughts, the trio emerged from their positions and launched a coordinated attack. Yuki took the lead, employing the Eight Trigrams and 64 Palms technique, but Takao swiftly parried her strikes, leaving her no room for a counter. As the stalemate lingered, Kosuke unleashed the Lightning Style: Lightning Bolt attack. Takao responded by erecting a Rock Shelter, effectively shielding himself from the attack. However, a familiar 'click' echoed, signaling danger.

This time, Takao confronted Yuto head-on, parrying his attack with his tanto. Engaging in a sword fight, Takao welcomed the challenge. Yuki joined the fray, employing her taijutsu skills to further pressure Takao. Seeing an opportunity to retreat, Yuto attempted to pull back, only to be caught off guard by incoming shurikens. Kosuke intervened just in time, deflecting the projectiles.

With all three opponents now grouped together, a Takao clone appeared in the distance. Employing the Earth Style: Bottomless Swamp technique, the clone created a mud-covered swamp around them. Yuto attempted to warn his teammates, but the jutsu took hold before they could react. They found themselves sinking into the mud, only their heads remaining above ground level. Faced with this predicament, the trio struggled to break free, applying force against the mud.

Takao took charge, placing kunai at their necks. He declared, "The test is over. Return to where we started." With that, he released them from the jutsu, and in a flicker, he vanished from the scene.

Hearing that the test was over, a hint of disappointment tinged the trio's feelings, realizing they had been manipulated by Takao. After a few minutes, they reached the designated spot and spotted Takao perched on a tree.

Takao leaped down from the tree as they approached, standing before them. He announced, "You have 15 minutes. Reflect on the battle carefully, and then I'll ask you some questions about it." Yuto settled down, immediately immersing himself in a thorough analysis. Observing Yuto's focused demeanor, both Yuki and Kosuke also took their seats, eager to dissect the battle's intricacies.

When the allotted 15 minutes passed, Takao posed his question, "Why did all of you lose to me?" Yuto's hand shot up, indicating his readiness to answer. A smile graced Takao's lips as he acknowledged Yuto's raised hand. "Alright, Yuto. Let me know when you think I created the clone."

With a slight clearing of his throat, Yuto began his response. "After the sword fight between you and Kosuke, when you engaged me, and then swiftly flickered away after my intervention – that's when you created the shadow clone."

Takao nodded approvingly at Yuto's accurate insight. "Correct answer, Yuto."

Yuto's curiosity remained unabated as he continued, "But how did you manage to evade my sensory abilities?"

Takao's smile remained intact as he answered, "Ah, that part. I knew you had sensory skills, so I purposely moved out of your sensing range. This allowed me to operate without giving away my position while you observed the battle."

Turning his attention to Kosuke, Takao's focus shifted. "Kosuke, what's your analysis? How do you see the situation?"

With a slightly nervous demeanor, Kosuke responded, "I think... when you used the Earth Style: Rock Shelter to counter my Lightning Style: Lightning Bolt, I missed an opportunity. I could have tried to take advantage of your focus on the shelter and catch you off guard with a close-range attack."

Takao's nods of approval continued as he acknowledged Kosuke's analysis. Shifting his attention to Yuki, he posed the final question, "And Yuki, what's your assessment?"

Yuki took a steadying breath before responding, "During our taijutsu battle, I should have exercised more patience, seeking out openings with caution. My attacks became predictable, making it easier for you to block them. When I employed the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms technique, I should have adapted my strategy after you parried it, rather than plunging straight back into close combat."

Yuto leaned in, absorbed in thought. "I realized that the timing of my trap might have been too foreseeable. Activating it while you were already engaged with Kosuke and Yuki made it somewhat anticipated. To amplify its effectiveness, I should have set up the trap before the battle began or seized a moment when you were more engrossed with one of us."

Takao's smile widened, appreciating Yuto's analytical mindset. "You're absolutely right, Yuto. Timing and keeping the element of surprise can make all the difference. Now, let's delve into strategy. What might you have done differently upon sensing my use of the Earth Style: Rock Shelter during the battle?"

Yuki chimed in, "We should have coordinated our attacks better. Instead of all three of us attacking head-on, we could have tried to create diversions and attack from different angles simultaneously."

Takao nodded, acknowledging her point. "Indeed. Combining your abilities strategically can often catch your opponent off-guard. Lastly, how could you have countered my Earth style jutsu that trapped you in the Bottomless Swamp?"

Kosuke answered after thinking, "Instead of breaking free alone, we should've pooled our chakra and worked together with a combined jutsu to counter yours."

Takao clapped, impressed by their insightful thinking. "Well done, Kosuke. Teamwork and adaptability matter in battles. Remember, this exercise wasn't just about beating me, but also learning from each other."

Takao's smile radiated encouragement as he addressed their insights. "You've all captured the essence of this training. Remember, growth springs from setbacks. Don't let mistakes deter you; rather, use them as stepping stones for improvement."

"Alright then, let's call it a day," Takao continued. "When you return home, ensure you rest well because you won't get much of it from now on. Our meeting time shifts to 5:30 am starting tomorrow. Punctuality is crucial, so don't be late. Kosuke, Yuto, stay back. Yuki, you can head home to recover."

As the goodbyes were exchanged, Yuki made her way home, her body adorned with the marks of the intense training. Observing her, Kosuke and Yuto exchanged knowing smiles, silently acknowledging their own good fortune. "At least we came out of this without any injuries," their unspoken thoughts resonated in the air.
