Anne Sutton said, "What, you think I'll starve to death? I was living just fine before you came along, wasn't I?"
"Is that so?" Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "Then I was just overthinking it."
Anne Sutton looked at him, shifting her position in his arms. "Could you please not talk to me like I'm younger than Ian? I'm a grown woman! And a mother, for goodness' sake!"
Nathan Fawcett watched her, took her hand, and said nothing.
When he had a free moment, he liked to hold her, clasping her hand, his thoughts a mystery.
Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, "My mom told me today that she wants to learn how to drive so I won't have to pick her up anymore."
Nathan Fawcett said, "That's great."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her. "Your mom seems to be doing really well lately."
"Yeah!" Anne Sutton said. "It just proves that women need to stay away from men if they don't want to be angered to death every day."
Nathan Fawcett's lip twitched. "Let's be clear, I haven't been angering you."
