They weren't strangers to women, after all. Just hearing about a "nation of women" wasn't enough to make them lose their sanity.
However, there were indeed many people on this island who had never seen men. Aside from the Marines who had invaded earlier, the only male they had interacted with was Kaido. Now the appearance of these crew members finally made them realize the diversity of humanity.
