Nothing on the outside had changed. The burning city was still breaking apart around them. Black stone cracked under falling debris, flames spread through the lower streets, and the air remained hot despite the cold wind. Above her, Nox and the First Born were still locked in place, their weapons pressed together in the sky as dark power and crimson fire twisted around them.
At that moment, Emerald stepped back as another shockwave rolled across the street. Dust hit her face. She looked toward the castle behind them. The noise from the fight was growing worse by the second.
"It seems I will have to move without him," she muttered, brushing ash from her shoulder.
She had no intention of standing there and letting Nox do all the work even though he instructed her to do so. She wanted to play her part.
With the way the battle was unfolding, if they continued to tear apart the capital, then the monster inside that castle might open his eyes before any of them reached him.
