Chapter 47 - Wrong Place. Again

What did she say?

Several eyes blinked at her, stared at her. Even the teenage girl Wara suspected to be a shifter titled her head in confusion.

"I was born here." Wara repeated even more firmly this time. She stared up at time, her purple eyes swirling like there was smoke in them. Pax squinted and blinked. It was gone and her eyes only looked like jewels.

Wara didn't know how to explain to them that she was born on this side of a veil they never knew existed. But before they could continue their standing around like non player characters, something growled.

It wasn't a growl per say– it was a deep rumbling and rustle, like something was breaking out of a shell. If the shell was a tree hundreds of years old and a horror lived inside it.

Zelda shivered and so did Sica. The said man immediately widened his eyes and spoke. "We can do the revelations later but we need to find somewhere else to loiter around now. Something's coming."

Yhra's eyes were sharp, looking around. An arrow drawn in its bow in her hand. However she had drawn an arrow or wherever she has whipped the bow from, no one knew.

The teenage girl whimpered and hid behind Pax. There was a loud snap. Wara flinched. Everyone's eyes went towards Pax who the sound had come from.

Sica had tried to run but the leash Pax had put on him has prevented it. Said man was raising himself from the floor and dusting his face that had kissed the ground enthusiastically. Pax immediately made the leash invisible again due to a very hostile look from Wara who remembered that leash.

"I agree with the blood drinker." Zelda spoke up. "Whatever is making that sound is something you do not want to encounter. Dies lucis is over but some creatures do not go back... I think this veil is worsening it."

Wara finally stopped glaring at Pax and looked towards Zelda.

"You are not implying that we go towards there are you?"

Zelda smiled but this time it was a sad smile. "We have no choice... For some reason the Dies lucis creatures always avoids humans unless they're scarce in number."

"We're still standing around" reminded Sica and that got Zelda moving. "Follow me." She said and the whole mismatched group followed.

Wara did not like the situation one bit.

The voices in her head didn't either. Her mind fought and screamed and howled and by the time she came to, she was kneeling to a pale skinned human staring at her like one would stare at a brand new present.

The hostility in her heart made the purple swirl again and the human –a man, smiled in delight.

"I have heard tell of these exceptional ones. I had taken it for nothing more than a mere wives' tale, yet here I stand, with one quite unexpectedly fallen into my lap."

Wara heard Pax chuckle. It sounded high and sophisticated but she could tell the woman was extremely nervous.

"My lord, these remain mine until such time as I should choose to relinquish them." She reminded the man...

Wara had no idea what was going on but she had an inkling of what was happening to her.

She and Zelda were kneeling and Pax and Sica were dressed differently.

"They were a gift from my father, and I cherish them most dearly." Pax continued but the man's eyes were trained directly on Wara.

He was not listening. "Name your price; I must have this one. There is something about her that I cannot account for…" He licked his lips, greed clearly dancing in his eyes. "I shall give you whatever you desire–only sell her to me."

Wara's entire body vibrated with the need to escape but a familiar suppression and suffocation kept her in place. In her peripheral vision, her very own shadow shook its head at her.

Pax stuttered and Sica spoke up, gesturing at Zelda.

"What of this one, my lord? She…" he gulped because the wind suddenly blew colder than before. "She bears a likeness, and is no less exceptional. Surely she would suit your tastes?"

There was a silence.

The man snapped his head up and stared at Zelda.

His face scrunched up in disgust.

"The other is unworthy of consideration. I prefer this one."

Zelda smiled and Sica went as white as a sheet.

Wara could almost read his thoughts.

That man won't see the light of the next day.

It happened in the blink of an eye. One minute the man was still leering at Wara, the next his head vanished.

"Ah that's better" Zelda sighed and stood up.

She gave a look towards Pax that had the woman contemplating whether she was next and then headed towards a carriage...

Wara finally realized she had missed a lot of details and slowly took in everything that has happened.

"So much for acting." She heard Sica mutter and the rest shuffle after him towards the carriage.

"We still need to blend in!" Came Pax's cry as she finally rushed after them.

Wara looked around and found the teenage girl dressed in a strange attire similar to Pax's and Yhra dressed as a servant.

Slowly, she started to understand and remember just how she got into this situation.

It started two days ago...
