Edward slowly opened his eyes.
For several moments, he remained still.
Then he felt the hand resting against his abdomen.
He lowered his gaze.
Samara was sleeping beside him.
Her expression was peaceful, the tension that had filled her face earlier completely gone. Her dark hair spread across the pillow beneath her, and her breathing was slow and relaxed.
It had only been three hours.
Afterward, Edward had chosen to remain beside her rather than immediately leave for the deck. Samara had been exhausted after her first time, and she had fallen asleep far more quickly than he expected.
Edward's gaze lingered on her for a moment.
Then, carefully, he lifted her hand from his abdomen and placed it gently beside her. He pulled the bedsheet higher over her body, making sure she was covered properly before rising from the bed.
Samara did not wake.
Edward opened his spatial ring and withdrew a fresh shirt.
