Chapter 122 - Chapter 120: Who was I before now

Sunz opens his eyes after counting down and sees that he is back in the theater, right where he was sitting before. The whole room is lit up, and the screen is fully black.

"Ok, great. Let's get to the points. SWORD!"

After a few seconds, the door to the room opened, and Sword came in.

"Yo Sunz, fancy meeting you here. Shouldn't you be resting? Why suddenly barging in here for?"

Sunz: Barging in? I mean, I didn't think it would work that fast.

Sword: Well, it did. So what's the reason?

Sunz: I want to check my memory. There is a girl that knows me from before, but I have no memories of her.

Sword: Any ulterior motive to this? I'll still show you your memory, just want to know if there is more to this missing memory.

Sunz: I mean, other motives might come up after the review, but nothing right now.

Sword: Well then, follow me. *wink*

Immediately, both of them were teleported to a room surrounded by black walls with a sofa in the middle.

"Before showing your memories, would you like to have God mode?"

Sunz: Probably not, but what's that?

Sword: You get other people's views and their thoughts, whether you are there or not.

Sunz: No. Definitely no after that. I don't want to trigger other motives.

Sword points at one of the black walls: Show Sunz Wu's memory.

The black wall slowly lit up and displayed a sequence of numbers

31-12-00

Sunz: Is that my date of birth? This is getting exciting.

Sword: I know, isn't it cool?

Sunz: So, is it voice commands or hand motion? How does it work?

Sword: What are you talking about? You use your mind. Those were just flavors, like those comics you read.

Sunz: So just for show, got it. Still cool tho. Looks like this will be easy.

Sword: Well, it will get handsy once you start editing it.

Sunz: What does that even mean?

Sword: You'll see.

Sunz: Ok, so you have my date of birth. But don't remember being born in whatever 00 year that is.

Sword: No one cares about the year you were born, plus the year does not matter at all. The 00 is your age, easier to keep track.

Sunz: Actually make sense, who actually checks the year of dead people.

Sword: Well then, ready to rewind your memory?

Sunz: Yep.

(Ok, date 1st and month September, then age… should be 13 or 14… just skim through it, then we are good.)

The black wall in front of him starts displaying a still image along with -0:00 AM- display above the image.

Sunz: This is way too tedious. Are there any filters for this memory video thing?

Sword:… that, I don't know. I usually go through the whole thing.

Sunz: I guess I can try… this thing can do voice commands and not only mind commands, right?

Sword: Maybe, I'm too used to working with this *point at his head*, so never bother trying or looking for other ways.

Sunz: ok then… Female – Named Fall.

After saying that, the whole wall turned black, and 4 pictures of a girl appeared with 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 displaying under each picture.

*move his hand to try to rotate one of the pictures, then all 4 of them rotate simultaneously*

Sunz: So that's what Class Rep looks like before… so what Teach said was true? How did I forget her that easily?

Looking at the female named Fall, who is also Class Rep. All 4 pictures have her wearing a long sleeves button up shirt, dark black trousers, and the presence of a pair of glasses on her face.

The only detail that was different on 4 pictures was her hair. It was short, a bit tomboyish in picture 1, but by picture 2, her hair grew longer, down to her shoulder. Then in picture 3, her hair reached down to the middle of her back and stayed the same length in picture 4.

Sunz: Was it because I rarely pay attention to her, so I didn't know her appearance had changed?...

"That new look does make her seem more ordinary… so frustrating! Shouldn't those information trigger any of my dormant memories?"

Sword: Found what you need?

Sunz: Kind of, but I'm still not satisfied.

Sword: Then dig deeper, or are you afraid of finding something you shouldn't?

Sunz: I don't know… let's find out.

*tap on picture with number 13 below it*

All other pictures disappeared, and that picture split into many numbers ascending from number 1 in numerical order.

Sunz (ok then, let's see her introduction.) tap on number 1, and immediately the whole room shifted. The black wall starts cracking, and bright light shoots out, blinding his vision… for a few seconds.

After getting back his sight, Sunz sees that he is in his old classroom when he was 13, and nothing is moving.

There were about 40 students sitting in the room, and Sunz could easily spot himself sitting alone at a two-person table. While some of the tables behind and in front of him have two people sitting together.

Sword: Wow, such a loser you were.

Sunz: Hey, I do have… friends, that I don't talk with anymore.

"Anyway, the class can fit up to 50 students, so there are spare tables. After like 2 years of staying in the same class, most already have pairs, while others don't or just like sitting alone."

"It's not that psychologically deep, just strategic. For most, it's easier to talk, others it's cheating strategy, for me more room."

Sword scoff: More room? How so?

Sunz: Well, that type of table has a connected bench, and the bench has the length from my head to my knee, I tested. So you can lie down on the bench or put your backpack on the bench, not the dirty floor.

Sword: Ok, and the friend thing?

Sunz: We'll see, plenty of memory to go through.

Sword: I get it, new friend with status change people.

Sunz: Yeah, sure. Let's go with that.

Sword: Enough of that, let's recover your lost memory. Might be interesting.

In front of the whole class is Fall wearing a long sleeves button up shirt, dark black trousers, with glasses on her face, and a backpack half her size. A female teacher is standing next to her.

Sunz: Resume memory.

The memory starts off with the loud noise of students chatting.

Teacher claps her hand: Everyone, quiet down, we have a new student today. Please introduce yourself.

Fall (13) confidently introduces herself: Hello, my name is Fall, I like studying and exercising. Nice to meet everyone.

Teacher: Ok, great introduction. We have some tables without a pair. Who do you want to sit with?

Fall (13) looked at all of the empty pair then pointed her finger: I want to sit there.

Teacher: Ok. Sunz, do you mind if Fall sits with you?

Sunz (13): Sure, I guess. You sure about that, Fall?

Fall (13): I mean, I get to choose, right? You don't want me to sit with you?

Sunz (13): No, I don't mind it. But do you-

Fall (13): I don't mind. Can I just go and sit with Sunz, Teacher?

Teacher: Sure, since neither of you don't mind each other.

Fall makes her way to where Sunz is sitting, and Sunz pulls his backpack close to him so Fall has space to sit and place her backpack.

Teacher: Great, now that everyone is settled, please get your literature textbook out and flip to page 10.

Sword: Hey, seem like the future repeats the past.

Sunz: What do you mean by that?

Sword: Well, she approaches, you reject, and she forces her way in.

Sunz: Really? It's two 13-year-olds interacting with each other. Nothing is happening, and keep watching. I hate this subject.

Fall is focusing on listening to the teacher teaching, but also keeping an eye on Sunz, who keeps dozing off every few seconds. Writing down in her notebook, then kicks Sunz in the ankle, which knocks him out of his sleepy state.

Sunz was annoyed by that but was a bit more awake than before. Then he started writing down in his notebook and glancing at Fall to adjust his distance away from her… then his elbow got nudged by Fall, which he instinctively moved his elbow away, but then felt something under it.

A piece of paper from the notebook with a sentence written in the middle of it.

Paper: Do you hate me?

Sunz is confused and doesn't know what to do. Fall glance at him and signal her eyes toward the paper, then go back to studying.

Sunz (13) writes on the paper, then nudges her elbow: No, but you should hate me.

Fall (13) takes the paper, writes on it, and shows Sunz (13) what she wrote: No, you are dumb.

*neatly fold the piece of paper and put it in her backpack*

The two have no more interaction after a while.

Sunz: Ok, you mind if I just speed up this slog?

Sword: Yeah, you are trying to find important memories, right? If you have the potential, do not become me, it has ups and downs. This memory slog is a down, the only up it has is after you've done organizing.

Sunz: I mean, yay, I found how I met her. But like, fuck man, my past self suck.

Sword: Well, that was one memory, and… people grow up. The older you are, the more you perfect yourself…

Sunz: I guess, but that doesn't mean forget part of your memory. This memory shows me how much I hate my younger self, but it is important. I still act like this, but I am more confident, that one is still afraid to speak his mind.

Sword: Your memory, your judgement.

Sunz: Let's keep going.

Going through some more memories of himself and Fall. A lot of which only last for a minute or two, then Sunz goes to talk with his friends sitting at the table behind him, while Fall sits there studying.

Besides the first two weeks, Fall rarely interacts with other students and just sits at her table, minding her own business.

One memory that interested Sunz was when he played badminton against Fall during gym class.

Sunz and Fall are standing together with their racket in hand.

Sunz (13): Looks like it's me against you.

Fall (13): Yeah, you seem happy.

Sunz (13): I like this sport, and it's the only one I'm good at. But, depending on your performance, this might get boring.

Fall (13): Are you underestimating me, just because you're good at the sport?

Sunz (13): I know I'm better than everyone else in this class. All they do is backhand serve, none know how to forehand serve. Like, it's simple, drop the shuttlecock and hit it mid-air, simple.

Fall (13):… *perform a forehand serve in front of Sunz* that's good?

Sunz (13): Yes! This is going to be fun! Thank you for joining the class, Fall! *running to the other side of the field*

The two compete intensely against each other.

Sword: Is this memory good?

Sunz: Yes, haizz, been a while since I played it.

Sword: At least this affects your swordman skill.

*both continue watching the match*

After a few intense rounds, they both go and get themselves something to drink from the cafeteria, which is near the field where the class is doing their gym activities.

Fall (13): Here you go, on me.

Sunz (13): Thank you. You were great out there.

Fall (13): You too, ever planning to go further with the sport?

Sunz (13): Not really, only play for fun and have really bad stamina. Might die if I try to go pro.

Fall (13): Oh yeah, remember that time you told me I should hate you?

Sunz (13):… yes, please forget about that. We did not know each other, and you forcefully joined my table.

Fall (13): I don't know why you told me that, but I guess I know what it was about.

Sunz (13): Yeah, you should. It's like a warning sign. The Grossest Student.

Fall (13): Yeah, you are going a bit too far on yourself. No one calls you that title. They do call you gross because of that incident where you hock a loogie from the 4th floor onto one of the

girls' heads. It was really big and slimy too.

Sunz: (13): Yep… don't have any comment on that.

Fall (13): All of those build up reputation gone within one day and put you in the negative with every girl in class.

Sunz (13) drinks his drink: There wasn't much build-up to begin with. Happened halfway through 6th grade.

Fall (13): No way… it's been a year and a half, and they all still hold that against you.

Sunz (13): Probably, and I also picked up petty fights that I should have stood down.

Fall (13) laugh: It went on for this long because you were being insufferable. You can't make this up.

Sunz (13) smile: Yeah, just laugh at me, I'm a joke anyway.

Fall (13) muffle her laugh: Do you want me to say sorry about that?

Sunz (13): Why? It's all true anyway.

Fall (13) finished laughing: At least there is one thing good come out of this.

Sunz (13): Oh, there is a good thing for being an asshole to girls?

Fall (13): You are being such a bitch right now. Ever consider killing yourself? With how much pressure being put on you every day by the people around you, we have a 4th floor up there.

Sunz (13): You know… never consider that as an option, also none of the girls ever told me to go kill myself. So I should, not see ya. *run away*

Fall (13) grabs Sunz's arm, then throws him to the ground: Yep, seeing the bigger picture now.

Sunz (13): Oww! That's hurt.

Fall (13): Yeah, serve you right. Upside is, you are not suicidal. *reach out her hand* stand up.

Sunz (13) grabs her hand and smiles: Yeah, got me real good. If your value is 0, never let it go negative.

Fall (13): You sure being like this is good for you? Like, don't you want a girlfriend in the future?

Sunz (13): I don't know. If it happens, it happens. If not, can't be angry about that.

Fall (13): This is the most we have ever talked with each other. I also don't hear you talk like this with your friends.

Sunz (13): Well, you are female, and they are male. Plus, we talk about random stuff and not my popularity and its past.

Fall (13): I guess you are right. Ready for more?

Sunz (13): Always, let's go. *run ahead to get to his position*

Fall has a worried expression on her face when Sunz turns his back away.

Sword: That was-

Sunz: Sorry, but please be quiet.

Focusing on going through different memories, the scene around them changed many times until Sunz found a scene where he and Fall were talking with each other on the school field trip.

"Found it, I remember most of it now."

Sword: Finally found the memory you were looking for?

Sunz: Yes, but not the memory anymore, it's the process of how I turned into my current self. You remember I said I have friends that I no longer talk to? Like always, someone has to say it straight to my face. Everything is my fault, my own doing. Haha.

Sword: Is this going in a good way or a bad way?

Sunz giggles: Sorry about that. Everything is good now. It's just funny that, I was already myself, but I never learned to let go of something that only I feel attached to.

Sword: Seems like you did forget about the past.

Sunz: And now, I remember, the moment I was too much of a coward to confess.

Sword: Then, let's see the moment you've been looking for.
