When they finally located Eli and the children near the lower pavilion, Jackson politely excused himself to retrieve his finalized wishing bell from the temple counter. Moving with an easy grace, he approached a sprawling, ancient tree branch heavy with brass ornaments, carefully hanging his bell among the others. He stepped back, bringing his palms together, and clapped sharply three times, bowing his head to pray solemnly for his private wishes to come true.
When he returned to the group, the thick, palpable chill radiating from Eli didn't deter him in the slightest. Jackson casually initiated a light conversation, even going out of his way to purchase a set of traditional silk protection charms for the two boys.
"Thank you so much, Jackson. I really appreciate it," Neon expressed his gratitude politely, slipping the delicate amulet safely into the front pocket of his backpack.
