The surface of the sea did not rise gently. It churned.
At first, it began as a low tremor beneath the water that looked subtle but unnatural. The waves pulled inward as if something beneath the ocean floor had taken a breath.
Then the stillness shattered. The water surged violently and spiraling outward in heavy currents that collided against one another with force.
A deep rumble followed. The next moment the sea split.
From beneath the dark water something massive began to rise. Jagged and ancient stone broke through the surface, covered in layers of algae and time-worn erosion. Water cascaded down its sides in heavy sheets as more of it emerged. What had once been hidden beneath the ocean now forced its way back into the world above.
The island called the Drowned Crown began its return to the surface.
