Chapter 8 - Contract

I pondered what to do. There was nothing I could do regarding Lucius. More importantly, I need to figure out another way. I need an alternative on how to open a link in my Spirit Realm.

But with no resources at hand, what can I do?

I sighed. (Hah~)

Honestly, I feel so lonely being alone in this forest. I want to eat good food and relax in a soft bed or drink some expensive liquor to my heart's content.

I couldn't understand why I have to suffer every time I get reincarnated.

As I was pondering under such a dark gloomy sky while surrounded by nothing but trees, and nothing could hear but ominous and heinous howls from a distance, I suddenly heard a low groan.

"Aw~~ooh…"

Hm?

I reflexively glanced at where I thought the noise was coming from.

Illuminated by orange light coming from the flickering fire, I saw the lying beast on the ground, a few steps away to my left. I saw one of the Dire Wolves heaving faintly. If I remembered correctly, it was the last Dire Wolf I shot with my 'Fireball'.

It's still alive…? I thought, slightly surprised.

Although the fire already disappeared, I could see its burnt skin.

Hmm…

Suddenly, as though a lamp lit atop my head, a sudden thought came to my mind. I'm sure I have that kind of ability that could open up a link to my 'Spirit Realm'. It was also perfect because this body of Lucius was still a virgin.

After thinking that, I called out my 'Skillpedia'.

"Show skill," I chanted the magic words.

My 'Skillpedia' was a record of all the skills I learned from centuries of experience. Because I learned so many of them, it has become difficult for me to remember all of them. So to avoid forgetting them in the deep of my memories, I made a record of them just in case.

And that's my 'Skillpedia'.

Just to say, it wasn't part of the Mission System or Status System that was granted to me by who knows who.

Probably by a god or something.

After a few scans, I finally found it. My fingers stop right in front of the term "Taming Ability". I clicked it.

Then, I was brought to the next list of skills. All the skills in this category were taming-related. But each of them had different functions and laws.

Of all the skills listed there, one skill I think fits my current situation.

Right.

It was here…

"The Spirit Contract!"

I quickly read the description of the skill to help me remember what to do to activate it. As expected it needs a medium and source of energy. Originally, the source of energy needed to activate it was 'Spirit Energy'.

However, the reason why I wanted to use this skill in the first place was to open a link to my 'Spirit Realm', so that I could summon my 'Spirit Energy' to activate my 'Spirit Eye' ability. So the problem now is how to form a contract without my Spirit Energy?!

It seemed like I was in a maze and all paths led to a dead end.

I smirked.

The reason for that smirk was because 'Mana' was universal. It could do the trick. It could be used as the substitute for 'Spirit Energy' in this situation.

Activating a 'Spirit Eye' ability only needs Spirit Energy. That was true. And Mana was universal energy. Also true.

So why not use Mana to activate my 'Spirit Eye'?

Because forming a contract with a beast wasn't like triggering a spell.

I stood up and moved closer to the dying 'Dire Wolf'.

I could feel the beast in front of me clinging on to its life. Looking at it at a close quarter, I noticed something. Although a big region of its body was burnt by fire, the remaining small part that has not been touched by fire showed silky white furs. Looking at the others, they seemed to have brown or maroon furs.

Staring at it, I spoke at it. "Since you looked like you wanted to live that much. Let me give you a chance. Become my comrade!"

"Aw~ooh…"

It could only groan.

I snorted. "Heh~"

"Don't expect me to understand what you are trying to say. Well. Nevermind."

Anyway, I need to quickly perform the ritual or else I'll be running out of time. I took a lying stick and drew the 'Contract Seal' on the ground.

After drawing it, I carried the weakened beast on top of the seal. Then, I bit my thumb and let the blood feel on it. My blood dripped on the beast and the seal.

After the ritual, I poured my mana on the seal while chanting the magic spell. The seal glowed up in a blue-ish color as if a fire ignited it.

Forming a spirit contract with a beast was a different story. As long as the beast approves your offer, it would not be a problem. Mana and the virgin's blood were the perfect medium to activate it.

According to the description, to have a better chance of succeeding, it was better to tame a beast in its weakened state than in its lively state.

In that regard, it would not have another choice. The only choices it had were to die or to accept the offer to live as a newborn spirit.

After drawing the contract, I applied my mana to it. The seal immediately lit up in a bluish color when my mana touched it. It keeps sucking my mana every second.

"What are you doing?! Accept it?!" I bellowed when after a couple of seconds I saw no reaction from the beast. If it would be going on any longer, either the beast would be going to die or my mana would be exhausted first.

After all, taming a beast wasn't always a success.

"Aw~ooh…" the beast continuously grunts in a very low and exhausted voice.

I frowned, then sighed to calm myself. Getting anxious at this moment would also not bring good results.

I opened my mouth again.

"Don't give up on life even if you're angry with me. No matter how you hated me for killing your kind, you can't blame me for doing that. I also need to defend myself to survive. It just so happens that I'm stronger than you. If you want revenge then live and get stronger, then challenge me when you think you're good enough."

After saying those lines, finally, the beast's body glowed brightly.

Looking at it, I smiled. "Now come," I said.
