But something in his expression shifted—subtle, controlled.
Recognition wasn't the right word.
Confirmation was.
Scarlett stepped out behind him. "What is it?"
Ezra didn't take his eyes off the opposite building. "Don't move closer."
That alone made her freeze.
Her voice lowered. "Why?"
Ezra's jaw tightened slightly. "Because we're being watched."
Scarlett's eyes followed his line of sight.
And now she saw it too.
A figure standing perfectly still on the opposite balcony, framed by dim light, not hiding, not retreating.
Just observing.
Scarlett's breath caught slightly. "Is it—"
"I don't know," Ezra cut in calmly.
But his tone made it clear:
He didn't like that answer either.
Across the distance, the figure didn't move.
Not even when Ezra subtly shifted his stance to shield Scarlett more fully.
Still watching.
