"That wasn't normal," she whispered.
"No," Ezra agreed quietly, eyes fixed on the staircase. "It wasn't."
Scarlett looked at him, voice lower now. "The older woman recognized me."
Ezra nodded once slowly.
"And the younger one panicked when she saw you looking at her," he added.
Scarlett swallowed hard. "Who are they?"
Ezra's expression darkened thoughtfully as he watched the now-empty staircase.
"I don't know yet," he said calmly.
Then his eyes shifted toward Scarlett.
"But they just became our priority."
The suite was quiet when they returned.
Too quiet.
The distant music from the gathering barely reached their floor now, leaving only the soft sound of the city wind outside the balcony doors.
Scarlett stepped out of the bathroom slowly after freshening up, wearing one of Ezra's oversized black shirts. Her damp hair rested over one shoulder as she climbed onto the bed silently.
Ezra sat near the window, phone in hand, typing a secure message to the commissioner.
