Synopsis
Young Aiden Turner, a 24-year-old man down on his luck and meeking out a living that barely kept him afloat, wakes up one day to realize that something is different about the world around him. On the surface, it didn't look like much had changed, but many things were very unusual to him. Maybe it had something to do with news telling him about Heroes, or the fact that he could see people from outside his tiny one-room flat using superpowers. Or maybe it was the weird talking sprite hovering around his head, telling him that he has stuff to do. Whatever the reason, Aiden had a feeling that this new reality of his would be where he shined.

Chapter 1 - Something's Off

It was a regular morning for young Aiden Turner, who had gone to bed late the night prior after playing some video games. His flat was built under a few shady trees, making his side of the duplex much darker than his neighbour's, but he liked it that way. Still, it made getting up in the morning slightly tricky, which led to his numerous alarms. One of these many alarms started going off, signalling 6:45 am. With a groan, Aiden rolled over and fumbled around to hit the right button. When he did, he sighed into the pillow, "Another morning..." He never liked mornings, which was one of the reasons he liked the location of his home.

He eventually got up and made his way to the sliding glass door that served as the back entrance to his flat, where he stretched while taking a look at the sky. "Hmm... sparse cloud cover... A slight breeze in the trees... should be a good day at least." As he watched the sky, he spotted something odd out of the corner of his eye. As he looked, he was... confused to say the least. "Is that... the neighbours kid but with wings for arms? Is that his sister on the roof with flames for hair?" Believing he was hallucinating, he rubbed his eyes, but the view persisted. "I've definitely gone mad." He then went to the kitchen so he could splash water on his face. Out of the kitchen window, he got another surprise. The Hispanic family neighbouring him to the east also looked different. The Latina matriarch had cow horns and well-defined muscles, while her twin boys had a monkey's tail and the fangs of a saber-toothed cat respectively. While he didn't see the father of the boys, Aiden was certain that he was also different from what he remembered.

"Computer, tell me the news," said Aiden as he began getting himself something to drink after he'd splashed his face and dried it. However, he paused midway through sipping some apple juice as he heard the word 'heroes' mentioned several times. "Hmm..." He went to his computer desk, which was only a dozen steps from the kitchen, and prepared to search online. Small amounts of daylight began to shine in through the front window, through which he could see the side yard up to the street, since his duplex of one-bedroom units was positioned in the back right corner of the lot, behind another duplex of two-bedroom units which were situated in the centre. After booting up the computer, he began to research these news articles, soon delving into the word 'heroes' more, only to get slapped with a jarring reality check.

To his surprise, it appeared that he had woken up this morning in a universe just like the My Hero Academia one, complete with Quirks and the World Hero Association. However, he noticed that all the familiar names he recognized from that universe didn't exist, including All Might. From that, he deduced it was a parallel world of sorts. "Hmm... I wonder..." He then began searching to see if he could find his own information. After confirming several personal details and forms of identification, he managed to find his own information on the website of his health insurance company. "Hmm... Aiden Turner, 24 years of age... Born Quirkless? Damn." He wasn't surprised by this at all. Genericism was something he always felt stuck with.

As he was pondering his new reality, he heard a weird noise, like fairies fluttering around his left ear. A blood-coloured butterfly-winged fairy creature hovered two feet from his head, roughly the size of the average adult human head. A young boy with similarly-coloured hair and blue eyes stared at Aiden with crossed arms. "You deaf or something?"

Aiden blinked then rolled his eyes, "No, just realizing I've lost my mind."

The little fairy boy tapped his foot mid-air in frustration, "You can't lose something you never had, Aiden. Now pay attention." He then took a flamboyant pose as he said, "I am Caelum Incantis Tempos, the Spirit of Adventure, and your personal guide!" His butterfly wings fluttered dramatically as he spoke, giving him an imposing air... if it wasn't for his small stature.

"A bold name for such a little guy, Caelum."

Caelum's little elven ears turned red as he fumed, "I am not that small!" He gave Aiden a tiny punch to the face, which actually felt like he'd been sucker punched rather than just tapped. "Don't belittle me!"

Rubbing his cheek, Aiden sighed, "Fine, fine. So, Caelum, what do you want?"

"As I said, I am your personal guide. I am the voice of what you could call your 'system' since you certainly love reading those types of stories. In this world, you are as Quirkless as a newborn baby. You're also long past the age where Quirks develop, so you're in an unusual position. However, with me here, I can change that. Let's test your luck!" He threw his tiny hands out to the sides as sparkles fluttered from his body, which floated up and took the shape of a roulette wheel with numerous slots, with a red arrow at the top. The wheel began spinning at a rapid speed, only beginning to slow when Aiden said "Stop!" As the wheel came closer and closer to picking a slot, Aiden's nerves started to get the better of him.

Eventually, the wheel came to a stop, and, with a mild amount of fanfare, a playing card appeared from the slot and fell down into Caelum's hands, while the wheel faded away. "Let's see what you got!"
