Chapter 2 - The Escape

Midday had fallen.

Bullets, bombs, missiles, and fossil fuels kept flying in the air, destroying, exploding, and sweeping away buildings, bridges, poles and human lives.

Tyler was devastated. He was losing it. It was just too much for him to bear.

It would be much easier if he was alone. But with the kid he was still carrying, it was a quagmire, a quandary, a hard nut to crack!

The kid has him over a barrel.

Leaving him all alone, by himself, would be as good as giving him away to the monsters, and certainly, he can't return back, having no weapons to fight or without any special military skills. Besides, the house he just managed to escape behind him is completely on fire.

Ahead of him, towards the east, lies a typical, thick forest. If he wishes to stay alive, this could be the only choice.

While he lingers, the turmoil keeps getting closer and worse, which makes him sprint towards the forest.

It was a green, and a dead fall - fallen leaves, logs, twigs, branches and trees.

His feet, while holding the kid tight to himself, shuffle through detritus, leaves rustling, wind whistling around trunks, squirrels chattering, insects and birds chirping and singing.

They both shiver in fright at strange noises deep in the forest's heart.

Soon, they found a shelter-like place under a big stone, where they stopped to catch a breath while trying to process things out, and rested for a while.

As dark shadows cast over the dreadful forest, Tyler tried as much as possible to keep calm and stay strong, especially for the child, while still holding firm to the hand of the child. They were both thirsty and hungry. He wasn't much concern about himself but the child. He asked the child to be strong and not to worry, everything was going to be fine.

- Midnight had come -

They had no where to go, no stars could be seen. In the distance, wolves howled loudly at the moon that was flying high in the sky.

Everything around them was scary, the trees, atmosphere, sky, and different noises.
