Lexie did not know what Isiah was going to test. He had simply warned her that she had to run for her life if the outcome he anticipated failed to occur.
Deep down, she kept praying for whatever he wanted to happen, wishing only for his desire to come true.
The man he had slain lay motionless on the stone floor. Isiah began to feel the dark hunger creeping back into his chest. It was not as overwhelmingly intense as when he forced victims to suffer before dying, but it was still a gnawing, agonizing void.
Lexie stood nearby as though she possessed a literal death wish. Ever since losing her family, the sole purpose of her existence had been Ciel and Isiah. Yet now, Ciel had found someone far stronger to protect him, and Isiah had found a woman far more beautiful, intelligent, and powerful to love.
'I am completely alone,' Lexie thought bitterly. 'So if my end is coming, it better happen right here and right now.'
