Isiah leaned his head back against the wall, taking in the details of his past room while he awaited her return. It was a spacious bedroom featuring a large bed, flooded with natural light from the expansive windows.
'This is absolute torture,' Isiah reflected bitterly, closing his eyes against the sunlight. 'Even seeing her standing before me, I am acutely aware that she isn't real. She is gone, buried in the past, and I will never behold her living form again. I am condemned to cling to her memory for the remainder of my existence.'
A few minutes later, Rosa returned carrying a steaming mug. A broad, genuine smile illuminated her features, offering a warmth no one else had ever granted him across two lives. Seating herself along the edge of the mattress, she set the drink into his hands.
