Lexie stared at her mother in complete shock, stunned that she had actually dared to strike her across the face. She was certainly no longer a child, yet she had spent her entire life acting on instinct, choosing reckless paths whenever she felt it was right.
Lexie had always done whatever suited her principles, and that unyielding nature drove her mother mad tonight, especially when Lexie insisted on chasing after a strange child in the middle of the triple full moons.
"You only ever think about yourself!" her mother hissed, her eyes wide with panic. "You never consider your family before you act!"
"Why are you saying that to me when all I have ever cared about in my entire life is this family?!" Lexie shot back, her voice shaking with hurt. "I lived exclusively for you all for the past eighteen years! I worked like a grown man every single day just to provide food and shelter, and at the end of it all, this is what you say to me?!"
