"Mom, can you tell me why you made this choice? Is it because Dad broke your heart, so now you've lost faith in all of them?"
Vera Warner gave a wry smile, stroking her daughter's face. "Don't overthink it. This is grown-up business. You'll understand when you're older. Besides, Zola is missing, and I need to help find him, so I have to take you with me."
