Ella let out a soft groan as her eyes fluttered open, her lashes heavy as though weighed down by sleep itself. For a moment, she simply lay there, disoriented, trying to piece together where she was and how long she had been unconscious.
The room was dim, wrapped in a quiet darkness that made it impossible to tell whether it was the late hours of the night or the fragile beginnings of dawn. Only faint slivers of light slipped through the curtains, casting soft shadows along the walls. It felt still. Too still.
She shifted slightly, intending to sit up, but quickly realized she couldn't move freely.
A pair of strong arms were wrapped securely around her waist.
Her breath caught.
Slowly and carefully, she trailed her gaze along the length of those arms until her eyes settled on a familiar face resting just behind her shoulder. His silver hair slightly covering his handsome face. Relaxed features softened by sleep.
