Chapter 549 - Ch 169 - Last Hope

The eventual rescue took place swiftly and efficiently.

Jun Mo Xie retrieved Princess Ling Meng without exposing himself and passed her directly to Wen Cangyu, who had also been tailing the assassins.

He didn't wait for questions. He simply turned and made his way back to the Jun residence.

By the time he arrived, everyone was already gathered at the entrance, waiting anxiously for him, their eyes filled with concern and anticipation.

After sending Dugu Xiao Yi and Sun Xiao Mei away, Jun Mo Xie finally allowed the quiet of the courtyard to settle. Then, with a simple gesture, he summoned Beru from his shadow.

A pitch-black figure rose from the darkness like living smoke, forming into a massive ant-like soldier. Its sharp mandibles clicked softly, its presence cold and dangerous.

"Heok!"

Jun Wu Yi staggered back, eyes widening.

An actual monster had just crawled out of his nephew's shadow.

Jun Mo Xie raised a calming hand. "Third Uncle, don't panic. He's an expert left behind by my master to protect my life in dangerous situations. I need his help to heal Ye Guhan."

Jun Wu Yi swallowed hard. He had seen many strange things in his life, but nothing like this. Still, his nephew's tone was steady, and right now, nothing mattered more than Ye Guhan's life, so he nodded his head.

Beru stepped forward with a low chitter, one claw gently touching Ye Guhan's torn chest. A soft green glow spread out, delicate yet powerful.

Jun Wu Yi watched in stunned silence.

Ye Guhan's wounds, which had been deep enough to expose bone and organs, began closing rapidly. Torn flesh knit together like melting snow refreezing, bone fragments reattached and straightened, and the blood flow slowed, then stopped.

The battered body mended as if time itself had reversed.

Jun Wu Yi could barely breathe. He had seen miracle doctors, rare medicines, precious elixirs, but never anything like this.

'This wasn't healing… this was resurrection.'

'How… how could something like this exist in this world? Oh my god… if anyone discovers this… if such a power becomes known…'

A cold chill ran down his spine.

No empire or no clan would ignore something so heaven-defying.

Jun Mo Xie also noticed his uncle's expression, but he didn't comment. Instead, he knelt beside the now-stable Ye Guhan. He was just about to wake him up for a few private words when hurried footsteps echoed through the hall.

He narrowed his eyes and realized that General Dugu Wudi, Minister Sun, Princess Ling Meng, and Fang Hui Sheng, the best medicinal expert in the city, had arrived.

"Trouble." Jun Mo Xie clicked his tongue silently. He quickly bit his finger and drew a thin array over Ye Guhan's chest.

The pattern glowed briefly before sinking into the skin and disappearing completely.

It was a simple illusion array.

To anyone below the Sage Realm, Ye Guhan would still look like a man on the edge of death, unmoving, broken, and unconscious.

This was necessary.

Because if Ye Guhan woke up now, that stubborn idiot would immediately struggle to his feet and try to go after Ling Meng again, and that would only lead to disaster.

The moment Mo Xie finished drawing the array, Princess Ling Meng burst into the room

"Uncle Ye! Move aside!"

She pushed Jun Mo Xie out of her way without a second thought. Her eyes were red and swollen as she rushed to Ye Guhan's side.

"Mister Fang, please save him! Please!"

Fang Hui Sheng and the other two physicians knelt beside the bed. They examined the illusion-shrouded wounds, touched the skin, checked the pulse, and exchanged somber glances.

Jun Mo Xie stepped quietly to the next room, allowing them to perform their roles.

A few minutes later, Fang Hui Sheng stood up, face grim.

"Princess… I cannot save him. His injuries are too severe. Even if we had arrived earlier… I do not think there was hope."

Princess Ling Meng froze, and the color drained from her delicate face instantly. She swayed, trembling violently, and collapsed to her knees.

Her lips moved, barely forming words. "Uncle… Ye…"

Fang Hui Sheng sighed softly. He didn't wish to add to the Princess's pain. He packed his tools with heavy hands and left the room, followed by the other physicians.

The hall fell quiet.

Dugu Xiao Yi and Sun Xiao Mei stayed outside in the courtyard, watching the Princess with worried faces. They remained close, afraid she might collapse again or lose control entirely.

Sun Xiao Mei watched the Princess collapse again and again beside Ye Guhan's bed, her shoulders shaking silently. Even Dugu Xiao Yi, who was usually bold and loud, stood frozen, not knowing how to comfort her.

Finally, Sun Xiao Mei bit her lip. She couldn't endure the sight anymore. She leaned close to Princess Ling Meng and whispered softly, almost trembling.

"Jun Mo Xie can save Mr. Ye."

She just spoke one line, but it hit the Princess harder than thunder.

Princess Ling Meng lifted her head slowly. She didn't trust Jun Mo Xie at all, and she never had. But Sun Xiao Mei was her closest sister-like friend. She would never lie.

Hope flickered inside her for the first time.

------

Jun Mo Xie was lying on the single chair in his quiet room. His eyes were closed, his breathing even. No one could tell whether he was meditating or planning. His breathing was steady, almost as if nothing in the world could disturb him.

A soft presence entered the room, and it was hesitant, nervous, filled with unsteady hope.

He sensed it immediately.

Without opening his eyes, he spoke in a calm voice that carried neither warmth nor hostility, only a quiet impatience.

"What do you guys want?"

Princess Ling Meng stood a few steps away, her fingers clutching the edge of her robe. Her usually proud posture was nowhere to be seen. Her lips trembled as she struggled to speak.

Sun Xiao Mei's earlier whisper still echoed in her mind, the one sliver of hope she couldn't ignore.

"This…" Princess Ling Meng finally forced out, her voice thin and shaky. "I plead, Young Master Jun… you save my Uncle Ye, ok?"

Jun Mo Xie slowly opened his eyes. But he didn't look at the princess. His gaze slid instead to Dugu Xiao Yi and Sun Xiao Mei, who stood behind her. His eyes were sharp, cold, and beast-like, nothing like the playful debauchee everyone claimed he was.

The two girls stiffened under his stare, their shoulders tightening as if a claw grazed down their backs.

Then he closed his eyes again, as if none of this truly concerned him.

"Save him? How can I save him? Your majesty must be joking with me. Even Master Feng couldn't do anything. So what can a debauchee like me do? This joke is not funny."

His voice was plain, steady, and strangely empty, so calm that it carried a chill.

There was no hint of cruelty, but there was no sympathy either. It was the voice of a man who had already drawn a line he did not wish to cross.

Princess Ling Meng froze. Her breath caught in her throat. The little light in her eyes dimmed as despair rushed in. She had come with hope, even if it was fragile, even if it depended entirely on someone she didn't trust. But hearing this cold refusal shattered the last piece of strength she had left.

For a moment, she stood still. Then, without warning, she dropped to her knees.

The sound of her kneeling was firm, decisive as it echoed through the quiet room.

Dugu Xiao Yi gasped softly, and Sun Xiao Mei raised a hand to her mouth, eyes widening in shock.

But Princess Ling Meng didn't stop. She bent forward, her forehead touching the cold floor as she bowed deeply.

"I beg you!" Her voice cracked with raw emotion. "I beg you. Please save my Uncle Ye! I beg you, I beg you, I beg you…"
