Chapter 55 - Small Steps

Won't be uploading next week so I'm posting this in advance.

Enjoy the chap. And give me those power stones. I want to make it to the ranks.

************************************************************************

The next few days were spent with me scouting many other places in the slums with an adequate amount of wealth. To be honest, it was shocking to find out just how rich these syndicate members are.

Most of them are richer than the common folk!

Turns out the trade routes between the districts have a lot of its resources 'reallocated' for the police. The interconnecting waterways have around Ten to Fifteen ships a month getting several unprecedented stops for refueling.

The most surprising fact was that the church was actually in cahoots with this. I didn't even know there was a church until now! Now as a very sane normal man…boy…I was cool with the existence of a church in the medieval era. But if those fantasy novels had taught me anything at all, then these guys were unwanted cockroaches living in a kitchen.

I can already see those smug priests, drunk in their power come knocking at my door for 'donations' once I start making some bank. Refusing those bastards would be another pain in the ass since they have a much larger connection than I ever will.

So I start doing the obvious.

I sent some clones disguised over there to join the church and be indoctrinated to follow their god. Figured tens of malnourished dumb children would seem like a good supply of priests for those old coots.

Most of them are currently undergoing training for the title of deacon. Other than training, their goal would be to reduce the competition around them. Although progress has been slow on that front, I'm sure the seeds would bear fruit once I'm rich enough to get their attention.

"Eren, are you listening to my story." Mikasa asked with her usual monotone voice, which she developed recently. It wouldn't have bothered me much if not for her hands reaching under my shirt every now and then.

"No." I replied expecting a little bit of gloom to seep into her heart only for her hands to tighten around my back. The chair creaked as she leaned over and let her body weight onto me.

"Are you going to grow up anymore?" She questioned after burying her head in my neck, her breaths audible to my ears.

"Well, I can't start my agency, without being an adult."

"How?"

"Somatotropin. It's a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland and secreted to act on many parts of the body to promote growth."

"Can I grow as well?"

"Well, the artificial growth hormone somatropin is synthesized by recombinant DNA technology. Which is not available with the current technology of this world."

"Then how do you do it?"

"I know the basic structure of this hormone and the proteins that stimulate the pituitary gland to produce this hormone. I had to ensure that my neurons' sodium ion concentration was just below the action potential."

"Right…..and you were an insurance agent?" I couldn't see her face but I felt like she was squinting her eyes at this moment.

"Wanted to be a doctor, ended up not being one." I freed myself from her embrace after saying my piece. Looking at the mirror, I could see the muscles slowly developing in my body. The lanky figure of mine was slowly getting some definition. A few more days and I will transform from a teen to an adult.

The only confusion I had was over the development of my abs. I haven't eaten anything after getting sold nor did I ever work out. The outline of a shredded figure was illogical in my eyes.

Ignoring the shirt gasp coming from Mikasa behind me, I left the bunker after getting changed. As the cold wind brushed past me, I looked up at the clear night sky decorated with countless stars and headed toward the bar.

'I should quickly get a proper house to live in with Mikasa.'

"W-We-Welcome!" The busty lady I met previously greeted me with a shaky voice and opened the front door.

It wasn't that hard to get her over to my side. I just had to toss her over the wall and let her see me slaughter some titans with my bare hands and she became the blithering mess of a fool she is now.

It was a stark contrast to the haughty tone she had when she promised to make me regret kidnapping her.

Her hands were gripping the hems of her linen dress as if she was on death's door. Seeing her go paler by the second, I decided to speak up before she died of cardiac arrest.

"Is everyone in there?"

"I-I-I-I C-C-C-C-C-Couldn't make the boss c-come. I MANAGED TO GET EVERYONE ELSE!" Her quivering voice became louder and less shaky as she came to terms with her possible death.

"Calm down, I'm not going to kill you. You still have your uses." Her eyes bulged enough to almost pop out at that as tears started trailing down her face.

"Thank you, Thank you THANK YOU! I-I'll do anything you say, just say the word boss." She leaned over a little to show her cleavage trying to be as seductive as possible. Sadly that was not what I meant at that. Although I do not particularly mind the view.

"Let's go." I said so before stepping into the bar with slow steps. The floor creaked with every step and the noisy restless place soon quietened down as I made myself visible to the masses. Although it may seem like I had everything under control, such was not the case. I was practically following every wild west movie I had consumed back in my sophomore year.

I didn't let the people start something tedious so with a light tap The entire place froze. It was a trick I discovered while testing my telekinesis. The toll of selectively stopping every single person was absurdly higher, adding to that, the effort required for such an endeavor increases significantly with the mass of the target.

After a bit of fumbling around with it and reminiscing about hellish education, I had the idea to increase the air density around my target to effectively make him immobile.

The smaller the size, the harder it gets to move around. It was a simple yet efficient process. A bit more tinkering and I'm sure I would get close to making a barrier…..

"Well let's introduce ourselves, shall we? I'm Eren, the one who will order you around from now onwards. I'll let you all go now, you're free to attack me but be ready to face the consequences. As you can see, I can stop you all without even lifting a finger."

Saying my bit, I let go of the hold, and lo and behold, an idiot among them didn't even hesitate a second to grab his gun and shoot.

BAM!

Only for the bullet to bounce off my skin. I could see his face paling at that, but decided to take it further. Lifting my arm, I plunged it inside my chest and took out my beating heart. If the silence wasn't noticeable back then, it was clearly 'audible' now.

The wimps watched in horror as my heart turned into ash and the hole healed before they could even register.

"This should prove how unkillable I am. Oh, and if you're wondering about slashing at my nape as you do with those titans, I'll spare you the trouble and spoil you right now. It won't work."

They just looked at me with more horror, seriously can you not express anything else?

"Let's finish business here." I slid my foot across the floor and haki coated the entire place, giving it an eerie black color. Walking towards the man who previously shot me, I raised my arm and slapped him before he could shit himself any more than he already had.

Boom!

It was the perfect experiment to prove that sound does indeed travel slower than light, as the body hit the walls and turned into some slimy painting, every bone turned to dust leaving a trail in his path, and every muscle turned to paste and plastered to the wall, the blood sprayed everywhere. "I'll only let half of you work under me, the rest will be disposed of. Consider this a test." I was about to leave saying that but I guess the perfectionist me couldn't let go.

"Don't try to run from this, you'll only make things harder for yourself. Oh, and make sure someone cleans this up."

Yup.

Just like those movies.

Now with that done, I turned around expecting the busty woman to shake like a leaf as always, but she had unfortunately fainted.

A sigh escaped my lips and I proceeded to carry her outside toward the last place.

The lackeys were taken care of.

Now it's time for the boss.
